For whom this may concern
  • What is the scale of engine input?
  • An Awesome can input a 400/xl but an atlas only a 360 while the Awesome appears smaller.
  • Why is there not a range of engines for each class as standard?
  • You've got your reasons I am sure.
  • Does range of engine result from mechwarrior lore/history which I do not have a problem if so?
  • The game is meant to be following a story line isn't it, While remaining...
:D

It is based on the base engine size for the variant in question along with the weight class of said variant. There are exceptions and more excpections will exist as more variant quirks get added in. They do it in such a way to avoid mechs doing what they aren't meant to do.

Was a spreadsheet on reddit awhile ago that someone had all the variants engine rating scale.

The reason for not being uniform is to make some mechs more attractive and differentiation.

It is the way it is now because the netcode could not handle very high speeds. So the engine size limit was put in place as well as a hard cap for speed.

It also killed most of the mediums.

Only if your idea of a medium is a light with more weapons and armor. Mediums were never meant to keep up with lights, except in certain cases like the Cicada.

They didn't, they would keep up with a STOCK Jenner or Commando, but they never kept pace with an equally built light, and if they even go close they had so few weapons as to be laughable.

A 50 ton mech going 140 only has about 8 tons for weapons ammo and heatsinks.

They wanted to avoid OP mechs like a 100 kmph atlas armed with 2 small lasers. :D

Edit:......I was too fast.

Good thing an atlas with a 400XL only went 64kph before speed tweek, and forget the ballistic slot, that engine weighs like 33 tons (don't feel like looking atm)

As far as I know it's 1.2X stock engine size and 8.5X mech weight, whichever is lower. Some mechs can have bigger engines, such as the raven 3L and the awesomes.

The limitations were supposed to be a stop gap until they fixed the netcode enough to handle the higher speeds.

thank god that use this to stop mechs from doing what they aren't meant to do.... I'd hate to see a duel AC 20 cat or something....

Oh yeah also capped it for most mechs to avoid sonic mechs that weren't lights.

I dont see why everyone complains about medium mechs. I have never had an issue chasing off lights and killing mediums/heavies in my mediums.

Right now I run a mastered CN9AL that goes 98kph and has 30 firepower, and 1.36 heat effieciency. It's fast, takes a beating, and deals damage well.

Also have Cicadas and Hunchbacks mastered, and perform well in them too.

I'm pretty sure it's an L2Play issue.
