Medium Mechs currently suffer from the inabilty to fulfill their role as the workhorse mech.

Proposal:

• Make the speed tweak speed bonus for medium mech pilots doubly-effective to give medium mechs a light cavalry role.
  
• (Optionally) Introduce smoke dispenser consumables. Give all medium mechs +1 free smoke dispenser module.

This would make medium mechs equivalent to their real world light / medium tank equivalents capable of advancing or retreating under smoke to offset the disadvantage of their weaker armour.

I agree that mediums need a more fleshed out role, BUT:

This would make a Cicada faster than any light mech, and more heavily armored as well as armed.

You may as well delete all light mechs from the game files if this were implemented, because there is no real point in piloting them when a chassis that weighs 10 tons more is faster AND more heavily armed and armored.

also this would make eliting a medium chassis twice as important, not a good mechanic.

I do agree mediums need help,

but in the form of battle value, calculated by giving a points cost to chassis\engine\weapons.

mediums could just be as cheap as lights when it comes to battle value (before weapons)

then the matchmaker could balance you based on BV, and your rewards could scale higher as a lower BV mech.
