These were crashes to the mechlab, not desktop. No error messages.
I've noticed a spike in core activity roughly the same time my video card starts screaming like a banshee in an attempt to dump heat - which is something that has only been accomplished by running a bitcoin mining client on it with a nearly 20% overclock.
Oddly enough, while those instances usually don't result in a complete process freeze (never had a "crash to mechlab" - that would be an improvement in my book) - they do cause a considerable amount of UI lag and occur frequently toward the end of a match.
The crashes are seriously starting to **** me off. It seems like some kind of conspiracy each and every time. In my games, I'll notice a few people who end up crashing out every now and then... but most of that happens within the first 2-3 minutes of the game. When I crash - it's right when my participation is -key- to win/loss. It's like there's some kind of conspiracy.
Perhaps it is time related. I've never bothered to look at the time - but it does seem that I am more likely to crash as the game and player count wear down. Perhaps what I'm seeing in these instances is some kind of memory 'leak' that slams into the limits of 32 bit. The bugs that don't cause my computer to instantly reboot (I have not found another program that can accomplish this on this rig... even some Paradox titles that are known for being released full of bugs) tend to go unresponsive with program sizes well over a gig.

COME ON MWO DEVS, please fix your game so we can actually play it....
(PS. just had 3 crashes, followed by one completely playable match....conspiracy or coincidence? haha)

Could it be related to an in-game mech being released while you are running something else?

PGI has acknowledged the problem sort-of.
There are two workarounds that I knew nothing about before my rage-uninstall last night. I am not really feeling that PGI deserves a fourteenth and fifteenth chance. (Second chances were expended last November).
I will probably monitor them for two patch cycles and then give up completely if there is no headway.
