Selling things such as color is a main way free to play games make money without having to result to being pay to win. The more a game sells that has little to no impact on the game, the better.
Now, I will say MC prices for things such as paint is a little high... but you can just wait for sales.

I am perfectly fine with this as a way for PGI to make money but a little high? More like alot high.
Cheapest color is $2.50 (at bit cheaper if by larger MC packs). That is for one color.
The straight truth here is that PGI's prices create an artifical barrier to most people actually purchasing them. In reality it is likely hurting PGI but I guess at the end of the day it is their choice.
I know for my part, I would probably buy the entire camo color pallet if it only ran me $5.00. Same goes for camo patterns. If they were only $2-$3 a piece, I would probably own them all. With the current prices, even the sale prices, I own exactly zero and this is from someone who has invested $155 into the game so far so I am not a F2Per.
