This is kinda hard to comment on since we dont really know what the initial line-up will be. Looking into the future though, the heaviest mech I anticipate piloting is a Timber Wolf, but the Summoner is the heavy mech I'm really looking forward too. (Both clan tech, I know.)

Shy of that, the Hunchback and Jenner both look like fun, and I can see myself getting into the Catapult if LRM's prove effective in what looks like will be a lot of urban combat.

im picky with my mechs, and usually look for aesthetics first. if it looks cool, im gonna pilot it. that being said, im biased to the clan mechs, but once i can get my hands on a cougar, im gonna be a fast electronic interfering pain in the *** for the other team

I have always really enjoyed medium weight battlemechs, but it was never highlighted to me so much as in the Solaris games in Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries. One of the announcers said it best, with something like "Heavy enough to pack some real firepower, but light enough to move around." I tended towards the Shadow Cat or the Stormcrow, but one of my favorite medium mech's aesthetically has been the Black Lanner (first saw it in the Battletech Card Game actually, followed by the board game) and I seriously hope that one makes an appearance.

Always been a fan of heavies and mediums myself. Course I'm clan favored but for IS mechs I'd probably go for a catapult or centurion and sometimes piloting a light mech like a speedy locust can be fun too.

Lol, I'll be willing to drive lower class mechs, Assaults and Heavies are just my first choice. I will probably have a Bushwacker in my hangar, I quite like that mech, It looks cool.

assault are too slow for my tastes, give me a hunchback in a city fight and a centurion for the more open landscape.

Assaults are always fun but they are bullet magnets soon as one is seen allot of fire will probably be braught down due to it be a large chunk of the opposing forces Damage potential. add to the fact that they are slower than my grandma on her moterised scooter/chair thingi. and yeah they are great meks in certain situations. largest i will ever probably pilot is a heavy but im mainly going to be in light/ medium scout and fire support meks.

Depends.

Depends on the mission requirements. Depends on the planet. Depends on my roll.

If I'm called up to break a line, search and destroy, defend a facility....
If the planet is urban with limited sight lines where I can get my back to a wall....
If I'm a commander who will sit on the flag or needs maximum survivability to direct my lance/company....

....Then a 80 and up is the best tool, and pity those on the opposite side of dual 20's.

....And be forewarned. There are some on the forum who KNOW how to use an Assault, and the idea of easy pickings each time an Atlas is sighted by lighter 'Mechs will likely have quite a few players sitting in time out very quickly.

Assaults move to slowly for my tastes, I'll take a fast heavy like the Dragon or a medium like the Crab or Assassin

i prefer lighter class mechs but when i first saw the atlas come clear from the smoke in the mechwarrior 5
debut trailer my reaction was the same one the pilot of the warhammer had "my god!!"

Depending on how they do modifications I would pilot less than assault class. I had a sweet little Uziel with dual PPCs that I was awfully fond of in MW4.

My favorite mech on the tabletop was the Warhammer, but always wanted to run a Panther in a campaign....the idea of using that PPC to hunt scouts seemed like great fun :)

**edit** Oh how could I forget the Shadow Hawk? So i guess my dream progression would be a Panther leading to a Shadow Hawk, then the Warhammer.

I play Mechwarrior almost every night with some buddies and I NEVER use assult mechs and hardly ever use heavys.I kind of feel sorry for pilots who have to bring the fatties with huge alpha strikes to get kills.

I've said it in another post and I'll say it here. I don't like piloting bombers (Assault mechs) because I love to move. I especially love jump jets and the wonderful death from above maneuver. I don't care how much firepower you have, you can always be out maneuvered. I'll be in a medium or light mech.

Heavies for me, rarely will I pilot an assault and that would be because what i am facing is simply too tough not to.

Give me a Marauder (please guys?) and I will be well pleased.

Really depends for me. If I'm doing LRM support for the rest of the lance/company, I usually always go with a Catapult (or Vulture/Mad Dog if I'm running a clan 'mech), but most of the time, I prefer the light class. Very good mobility, not much armor or weapons, but even a single scout unit can help out the rest of the lance/company with maintaining battlefield awareness.
