Assault sucks they have been nerfed too much so why bother with a slow mech that even a light can kill =\

Best to stick with Heavy or Medium as they can move fast and stack on guns too

How would you know they are nerfed too much? Are you breaking an NDA?

In WoT I'm playing artillery
In shooters I'm sniper or long range heavy support

so in MWO I'm planning to play heavy long range support, at the start probably Catapult armed with LRM and little something for close range self-defense

Using only 1 of my 4 founder mechs is not an option...

I think that's better to have1 fully experienced veteran for serious battles and 3 to XP them later, than 4 "greens"... but that's just my opinion

If the Game is Well ballanced we will end up using all kinds of Mechs, face it this is no single mech for every situation....you can try, personaly for my founders I HAD to have the Atlas, not because I plan to **** it out but because its Iconic.(I also couldnt setle for one so Im getting all 4)

Light and Heavy... I wil lbe delighted to light up Targets forr the Missile Cariers in the bech... and I will be just as delighted to sit in a Catapult and rain death from the second row.
Although I admit: once in a while I will be longing for an Awesome , just to see those 3 PPCs at work.

A Lynx in the med range and a Scarabeus in the light would be my first choice.

I actually believe Assault Mechs will be in the minority come release. I'm used to players abusing whatever "tactic" they can get their hands on in games so you would likely see lots of circle strafing players just picking on the "I turn really sloooow" Atlas. Unless he has allies to "stop" that from happening, it looks like he would actually be very vulnerable by himself. Because turning your torso and Mech is a factor in this game, and because Assault Mechs will be very slow at that, I anticipate most players preferring Medium or Heavies. My ideal brawler Mech will probably be a Hunchback or Dragon. I doubt I'll prefer Assault at all unless my Founder Atlas is the last undamaged Mech out of the 4 that I'll own or if my team specifically needs an Assault for some reason. Assault will simply be too slow to keep up with the enemy. They will constantly block you with terrain inbetween their weapon cycles or just strafe around you in a circle until you die. GL with that slow speed.

i think so too. i was planning to go all assault, because in previous games they were a loooot better and everybody went assault or went home. but in this game literally an assault mech will fail 1 v 1 anything else other than another assault mech, plus they're so slow piloting becomes almost an afterthought. the only thing as a pilot you'd be doing is swivelling your torso to spread damage because there is no way you're dodging anything.

the main difference is AI. in the mechwarrior games, mechs didn't try to stay on your butt or snipe you, they'd pretty much all circle strafe slowly around your mech at 150 meters, so assaults were king. in this game most people will be smarter than that.

I would absolutely pilot a commercial airliner, if they would only let me... (I tell them that I have several hundred hours of flight time behind me already, but as it turns out, flight simulators do not count) :D I guess this answers your question, sort of.

Yet another thread involving assault mechs and people trying to bash them. Unless you're in the beta and breaking the NDA you really don't know what they're going to be like. When the game goes live just have fun and play your style. There's really no point in trying to discourage people from playing a certain class.

all im saying is mw2-4 and mwo are different. without breaking any NDA you can see from the videos that in MW4 a stock hunchback moves at 100kph, whereas in mwo you're at 64kph. MW4 altered the engine system so that every mech could move at a decent speed. If you though assaults were slow in mw4 you have another level of slow that is incoming

I'm well aware of speeds of mechs. I've played MPBT: solaris and BattleTech 3025 where the speeds were correct and unchangeable not MW(insert #) modified.

But I think you missed the point of my post where I think people should just play what they want and have fun.

i didnt miss it and i agree with it totally :D

i'm just saying that expectations of people who think atlas will be fun for them in mwo based on previous games might be disappointed when they're not one man armies, so i would not want them to get their hopes up and then be like this game sucks my atlas is just waddling everywhere.

Being explained in this way I can agree with you. People shouldn't think the assault is the end all be all one man army,

I will of course try them all, having all 4 founders Mechs and I'll collect every Mech in the game anyway.

But if the Mechs have charakteristics as I expect them to have I will likely end up specializing in heavy meds and light heavies - 50 to 70 tons. I expect those to have a good blend of armor, speed, agility and armament.

I look forward to trying them all!
I adore speedy Mechs, but I'm also a big fan of the ponderous inevitability that is an Assault Mech. The deployment of an Assault into the fray changes the battlefield dynamic just by it's very presence

I think Assaults are going to surprise some people, using modules and character skills. And that's not to mention that no Mech exists in a vacuum; a lone Assault may die to a well-piloted Light, but if the Assault plays with a wingman... the scenario changes dramatically.

I,ve always prefered the medium mech. I became very efficient in the Uziel once i modified its loadout.
But the mech will olnly be as good as the pilots skill

I'm definitely going to play around with all of the weight types, but light or medium weight is going to be my preferred type. I'm thinking Raven is going to be the 'Mech I'll be doing all of my XP grinding on. :D

Probably 70 tons for me. Once I looked up the Cataphract on Sarna I couldn't stop drooling (heavy frontliner that jumps? oh yes).
