Just a heads up that might help.

I am in Western Australia, on a telstra ADSL connection, using a Technicolor TG587n V3 modem.

I was experiencing constant crashes, getting worse with each patch, until the game was virtually unplayable.

I did some research, and there are rumors on the interwebs that the above modem thinks MWO (among other games) is a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, and acts accordingly.

I went and purchased a Netgear D6300 Modem Router and set it up last night.

Went from crashing out every 4 out of 5 games..... to no crashes for a whole evening of play...

Hope this helps if you are having trouble.

KH,
I looked at this option first too. I found that the prorietary frimware that telstra provided with my modem, locked me out of access to the NAT and QoS functions, which might have helped ( I couldn't play CoH online for this reason too).

If you call telstra support, the run of the mill support operator will say that they are not qualified to help you with that level of support, and put you through to the $99 premium support line.

Needless to say, it is a massive scam to lock people out of the hardwares advertised functions, and then charge a premium to unlock them. I decided I was better off just getting a new modem. There are plenty of sites which can help you chooses one.

There are workarounds where you use a telnet session to reprogram the router, which I tried and couldn't get to work. If you are skilled in that area, you might like to try. You can ruin your hardware though, so be careful.

Best Regards

ElCad

Using a Thompson tg797n with Telstra adsl 2, and since the last patch I now constantly crash. Using a VPN, no crashes.

This might be what's happening to me then. Telstra ADSL with a Technicolor TG587n v3. Prior to the May 21st patch I would have a ping of 250-300 and the game was perfectly stable. Now my ping is 300-400 and I get randomly thrown back to Mech lab.

Edit: I tried an Optus ADSL connection at another house with the standard Netgear router. It played for several hours without any Mechlab crashes but did have some bad ping spikes.

This might be why I never use hardware supplied by the ISP...

Occasionally they do something stupid like give every router the same admin password. Not sure if this type of thing still happens, but it might be worth a quick search.

This explains a lot. I'm with Telstra and have a Technicolor TG587n v3, the game has become progressively more unstable in the last couple weeks and is now unplayable, crashing every match.

I tried out the suggestion of using a VPN last night, which eliminated crashes but gave me a horrible ping. When I first started playing I had a steady 240 ping. Pre-May 21st I had a pretty reliable 250. Post may 21st patch I'd range from 270-315. Through VPN I got a hideous 500-600.

I don't think I want to spend money on a new modem in order to play a free game.

Best fix for this: get a hammer... storm Telstra head office and make them send the NBN to every house before it's too late.

Thanks, I will keep this in consideration for when I buy my new computer next week.
... Telstra... nice to see they have not changed their ways! (sarcasm)

Looks like they did fix it in the 4th June patch. Back to my old ping range and yet to have been thrown to Mechlab.

Best workaround, go with iiNet. At least they're gamer friendly.

Hi All,

My wife and I play together regularly on our ADSL2+ and Telstra provided Thompson POS router. Minimal issues and both getting 350-380ish (330 if only one of us is on) pings times. I have only dropped out once or twice in the last week or so. Running pretty well considering the complaining I hear from others around town (Alice Springs) in regard to their 'net connections...

Cheers

Do you get routed through Adelaide? I get pings between 310 & 320 most of the time (from Katherine), I crash maybe once per hundred games, Netgrear router and Internode(iinet).......Telstra should never have been privatised, it should have been broken up and sold as assets.

Yep, well I assume we do seeing that all the auto "meet singles" ads are all SA based... ;)

Yeah, I was having this issue - my ping was actually around the 12000-20000 mark(no jokes, one game I think it was heading towards 30000)

So I went out and bought a new modem(Netgear N600) and the game immediately improved... to only the 2000-5000ms range.

Seems to only affect games, specifically MWO. I was having really bad ping on other MMO and online games, but nothing as bad as this. Speedtest results have come back at 210-250, nothing is leeching...

So yeah - partial help for solution, but still looking for more
