Even the "semi-functional" Training Grounds is a poor substitute.. plus it doesn't even function anything like the normal game (like, the lack of efficiencies applied).

Videos are not enough. For a game that's not your average shooter, those that have not played anything resembling a MW game are almost guaranteed to have trouble with it. I spec enough newbies in trial mechs to see that they don't quite know how to control their mechs. That is a serious problem.

Well thats why they are implementing a full tutorial next month as stated in this months developer update.

I fully agree with you btw, the current situation sucks, but they are doing things about it and until it gets delayed (75% chance) or ends up being completely crap (20% chance) it is on the table.

My biggest issue is it splinters the game if we have 3PV and 1PV separately.

And IF 3PV gives an advantage, you will see people drift towards it just like Poptarts, and PPC stalkers.

And if 3PV becomes the dominant version of this game, it will probably kill it in the long run. Because all those people who voted against it are the people who spend money regularly and are hardcore battletech players.

It wasn't like 50/50, it was like 90% of the player base on the forums not wanting it.

Actually that assumes that those who want 3rd are actually playing or waiting until it is implemented. Perhaps none of them are actually playing currently, so no split will happen and a new player group start up and begin dropping cash.

Win-Win

Should I even ask what the missing 5% chance happens to be?

Ignition of the upper atmosphere.

It's a pretty standard worst case scenario.

Two separate chances. I give it a 75% chance tutorial is delayed (probably to launch at the latest), and 20% for it to be entirely useless.

Aw, I thought it would be something epic, like the rapture or unlocking MW2's enhanced vision mode.

Please tell me where they said they would never do 3rd person? Quote and link to the entire post.

If the whole point of 3rd person is to bring people who wouldn't play the game otherwise to the game, how is it "splitting" the playerbase, rather than expanding it with two seperate people?

And why do people keep saying "mechwarrior isn't cod". When the hell has CoD been 3rd person? Do you people even think before posting or does **** just spew from your mouths in your nerdrages?

EDIT: Huh, in MW2 apparently there was a single 3rd person mode unlocked at level 19. Still, point still stands.

EDIT2: Furthermore, nearly EVERY mechwarrior to date has had 3rd person. So I'd argue that not having 3rd person makes MWO more CoDlike than mechwarrior!

You can find the answers if you look, here's the first one in this link about coolant. There is early discussion of it as well, but with the way they have moved everything around the forums ( bad PGI ) to avoid the outcry of many of their choices on MWO direction its hard to find anything: http://mwomercs.com/...evs-18-answers/ There is also a link for the NEVER 3rd person view, but honestly I don't care if you believe it. It did happen, deal with it.

this. people who are having difficulties with 1st PV are the ones that haven't mastered their mech movement and awareness. thus putting these people into practice games ( works similar like the ones we have right now, but with less rewards or even no rewards at all ) actually makes sense. and keeping them out from CW..

and having practice games with 3rd PV is actually interesting..I could see my damn mech with my camo and cool paint jobs in ACTION! RAWR

Ah..no it would not be a good thing. Let me tell you why, it would be like using a bike to teach someone to drive a car. After they learned how to ride that bike would you then just throw them the keys to your car? 3PV teachs new players very bad habbits and makes it even harder for them to cross over to 1PV. The advantages that 3PV offers make it the "easy button" go too and it will draw in those who are new to the game, the COD/MW group, and the very young players.

How would 3rd person bring in CoD players, a completely first person twitch shooter.

As far as I can tell, the main purpose of 3rd person view is to let people look at their mechs (thus justifying the real money they spent on paint jobs), make terrain meaningless - we can peak over hills and around corners, and punish people who try to get behind their opponents (because now you can see them, and - hey - the seismic module is the same type of thing.)

I don't really see what it brings to the game, and I'd rather time be spent fixing actual problems, IMHO.

Really? Have you even played CoD? CoD players like the "eazy button mode of play" which is what 3PV is.

Thats....a stretch. I mean seriously, Mr. Fantastic levels of stretching. You could have at least gone with Gears of War, or Uncharted, or Tomb Raider, or any of the various 3rd person shooters, not the most well known first person shooter on the market.

There very players we don't want nor will support this game in long run.
