About What Fps Should I Expect...

If I play this on a 2.8 ghz Core i7 processor with a Nvidia GTX460m and 8 gigs of ram? (About what FPS should I be expecting?)

I ask because I can only seem to get about 20 FPS at lowest possible settings and resolution, and it only drops to about 15 FPS with all settings maxed... that seems odd to me. (Not to mention unplayable.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ya, that's it (not odd but normal :)).... notebook or desktop?
edit: anyway give some more details about the cpu and gpu, but I think you won't be able to get higher FPS..

Thanks for the quick reply.
It is indeed a laptop, specifically a Asus G73SW-1BTY.

The GPU is a GeForce GTX 460M, with the specific stats here : http://www.notebookc...0M.33612.0.html (I don't know which of those stats are pertinent, so I figured I'd just post the link. I also got the model # wrong in the first post.)

And likewise, this is the CPU: http://ark.intel.com/products/52219

Edit: Oh, and some people have said ping might affect fps... I am not sure if that is true, but I usually have 300+ ping... (I live on the other side of the world.)

Edit 2: Alright, edited again, now with even more specificity!

Hm, theres a big gap between 440 and 460, also there are tons of different I7's. Use CPU-z / GPU-z to find out more about your system. It's free.

Asus G73SW-XXXXX fill the X's, e.g. Asus G73SW-91182V :(

O.O Yeah, people talk alot :) The ping wont effect your FPS, EVER!

Ok, complete model number Asus G73SW-1BTY.

And I have CPUZ, but I am not sure what it says that's helpful... is there something specific I should look for? (The report it produces is... many pages of text...)

I played on a Asus G74sx (i7 2.6 ghz, GTX 560m, 12 gigs of ram) up until I recently built a desktop for gaming. I was able to play on medium settings with 20-30 fps. When I bought the laptop, I thought the GTX 560m was an upgrade over my previous desktop's GTX 460, but it was actually a downgrade :)

You can get some neat desktop monitoring tools to see if it's your cpu or your gpu that's getting maxed out. In my laptop, the gpu was maxed and the cpu was only like 40% used. 12 gigs of ram was super overkill as I never was able to push the ram use over 2 gigs. You also might be able to push your card a little more if you install msi afterburner and overclock some things, but only overclock a little at a time to see if it pushes your temps up too much or if it's ok. Awesome cooling on those Asus G notebooks.

Two lancemates have MSI GTX460s. Both get abysmally low framerates. One switched it out for a GTS260, and it actually runs better. I can only assume that there's a compatibility problem with the 460.

For the record, I get between 40 and 60 with a GTX470.

Thing is, even if you overlock 20% (whats pretty ridiculous) you would get like maybe 5-10% more performance. 10% of 15 FPS .... HOLY 16,5 FPS ... just saying :)

check the forum, there has been some1 who detected that the GPU was running @ PCI-e2.0 x1 instead of x16. maybe this can help your friends.

For the record, a GTX 470 (desktop graphic card I guess) is still a good piece of hardware

Hey I play on a G74SX and I get 40+ with details on medium on an external monitor, 50+ with the laptop monitor and it stays cooler. One thing is get and use throttle stop, there's a very good chance your mobile CPU is throttling when you warm up. MSI afterburner and push 10% more on your cards, then look into tweaking your GPU settings to make sure you have "Prefer Max Perfomance" and so on with no AA. You might have trouble getting out of the 30's though with your rig.

Well, thanks for all the responses.

It looks like I'll just have to wait till I am back in the US and just get a desktop with some more current components.

And maybe I'll just rely more on LRMs till then.

Search the forum for user.cfg. You can try messing around with it, but its not recommend!

1. Can of compressed air. Clear out the heat sinks/back of laptop. Check bottom of laptop for fan access that may allow you to blow the dust build up out the back side. Basically, when was the last time the inside of your laptop saw some loving?

2. Make sure you are running it with the AC plugged in and not on battery. Just saying.

3. Disable Turbo Boost. Set to 98%/97% instead of the 99% as per this link. When the Turbo Boost thinks the program needs more power, it oveclocks the CPU but this does not happen to ALL the cores, first 2 then just one core. This will also cause additional heat, making other things to happen...

Disabling Intel Turbo Boost - Tautvidas Sipavičius

4. Nvidia settings, set to application control and turn off Ambient Occlusion.
go into nvidia control panel and click on "manage 3D settings" and under the global settings tab set preferred graphics processor to "use high performance nvidia processor" and that will force your computer to use your Nvidia mobility card in games. On this one you may need to make a profile for MWO, as some users have reported back on this.

Wow. Thank. You. SO. MUCH. (Seriously, no sarcasm here.)

1. I air dust my computer every day. (I pretty much live in a town made of dirt.)

2. Yep. Always worth pointing out the obvious in situations like this.

3. World changed. Will never be the same. My cpu was getting up to 90C+, and tending to run only 1 core cause of that, and I had spent ages trying to figure out what was causing it. I ended up just putting my computer right in front of my AC, and it still would get up to the high 80Cs. This one fix alone has taken me up to 35-45 FPS with max settings. And my average heat down to the mid 70Cs.

4 This was helpful too. Some of the settings you mentioned were missing but I made a few other good changes.

Thank you so very much.
