I have recently played MechWarrior Mercenaries and I have noticed that there is a considerable amount of different weapons. An example would be MRMs (Medium Range Missiles). That would be perfect for players that want close range, but still a comfortable distance away. The main reason I'd want more different weapons is because I'm getting tired of the old ones. Also they could get better equipment, like a better anti-air system that will get all the missiles. What do you think? Do the poll and we'll find out.

there*

The main limitation is that Battletech timeline. We are in the year 3050 at the moment so we can only have access to tech from that part of the timeline. As the timeline moves on, we'll get access to more tech.

We should be getting Clan weapons, which are pretty much the same except they have more range, do more damage, weigh less and take up less critical spaces. Also have ER every laser, Ultra every cannon, and Streak every SRM.

I voted yes because I like the idea of more or different weapons. I'm not bored with the existing weapons, especially gut churning things like the LBX10 Scattershot, but would like to see new weapons that conform to lore and some that don't.

For example, how about some form of chain shot; this was used to smash through masts in battles like Trafalgar. A weapon like this could be very effective against legs.

No. There is only one type of mech mounted weapon we do not have access to at this time. Artillery that can be mounted on a battlemech, either the arrow 4 missile or the sniper artillery cannon. Could be the thumper cant remember which. They will not be in the game because they take up to location slots.

However we could have the other types of ammunition in the game. Inferno rounds for SRMs, swarm LRMs, thunder munitions, and standard round for the LB. Dont think that last one will ever be available because it would make the AC10 obsolete.

Of course if you really wanted we could have the one shot SRM packs in the game. I'm sure every one would love to mount those.

Any thing else would be making up weapon types that had no history of balance with in the game of battletech or mechwarrior. They would just cause more problems, and take away from other areas of development.

Seriously? You think ammunition designed to take out rigging and sails on a wooden sailing ship from the 16-1800s, and fired from a 12 pound black powder cannon is a good thing to have for fighting armored robots?

The Narc launcher gets a (short-lived) bola pod as an alternate munition in 3057. ;)

"Developed by the Capellan Confederation, the Bola Pod features a small explosive charge which splits open the pod to release a series of horizontal chains, effectively creating a 'Mech sized bola to entangle limbs and perhaps cause a fall or inhibit the use of arm mounted weaponry. With the prototypes tested during Operation Guerrero in 3057, hampered by its inaccuracy and inability to affect Combat Vehicles and AeroSpace Fighters, the Bola Pod was discontinued shortly after."

"Bolas (from Spanish bola, "ball", also known as boleadoras, or Inca ayllo) are a throwing weapon superficially similar to the surujin, made of weights on the ends of interconnected cords, designed to capture animals by entangling their legs."

BT weapons start to get strange after 3055... :)

It's the Long Tom Cannon MWBTRv.4-AAS MechWarrior BattleTech Reference gives it a damage rating of 25 range of 700 heat of 14 and it will take up 3 slots. It sounds awesome so it would be great if we could have it.

Didn't vote on your poll due to the clear bias. It's not that there's too much firepower. It's that there's a timeline they are trying to somewhat adhere to in order to keep the immersive feel based on canon background AND they have enough trouble with balancing the game as is.

I think sticking somewhat close to the timeline is a good thing at this phase in the game as they try to balance the game overall. Once the game reaches the balanced state they intend (whether we consider it as such or not, metrics will bear out reality most likely), then adding weapons options (aka increasing the complexity of the game and therefore balance) will be a reasonable thing to do.

However, the Long Tom Cannon (the weapon you're talking about; not to be confused with the larger Long Tom Artillery Piece) requires 15 critical spaces, while the greatest number of criticals available in any part of a 'Mech is 12 (in the side torso when using a standard Engine).

In other words, the Long Tom Cannon necessarily requires implementing the ability to split the criticals of the weapon across locations (an ability only available in TT to the class-20 ACs & the Heavy Gauss & the arty weapons, and limited to two adjacent locations).

As MWO has not (yet?) implemented this ability, the only artillery weapons that would fit on a 'Mech at this time are the Sniper Artillery Cannon (15 tons, 10 criticals) and the Thumper Cannon (10 tons, 7 criticals).

There are several weapons systems that are currently available (timeline wise) that aren't ingame yet, so sure, why not?

Some of them aren't practical to put in without other changes to the game.

For example, both the Long Tom and the Arrow IV require more than 12 criticals, and to neither would fit in any single section of a BattleMech; without the ability to split a weapon across locations, no 'Mech could equip either of these.

To be honest, off-field artillery needs to stay off-field. Those weapons are in game, represented by the Artillery Strike consumable.

Soon the clans will come and with them tons of OP weapons to choose from.

Think ERPPC are bad? Now they hit like a gauss rifle and only weigh 6 tons. Think SSRMs are OP? SSRM6 coming at you. Want LRMs to shoot landmines or randomly lock on to a group of targets? Clans have that tech too. Think medium laser boating is a problem? The Nova carries 12 ER medium lasers with the punch and range of a LL. Oh, and can you say UAC20? Oh and it weighs 12 tons.

Yup... the clans are coming be afraid. Be very afraid.

Optimistic, aren't we?

Frankly, Clantech should simply be balanced by fielding a Binary against three Lances. Being outnumbered in a game like this is a colossal enough disadvantage, especially when for all the increased firepower the Clans throw about, they don't have increased defences.

If Luke Skywalker could take down an ATAT with a Speeder and a tow-cable, why can't a Commando bring down an Atlas the same way? :D
