No, not really. The scoring was changed so the damage you did didn't matter as much as getting assists. It was a fun tourney though. I heard some things but didn't see any suspicious activities. Lots of folks in the way of fire just trying to get that kill though. Wish it was like that during non tourney!

Shoutouts to all those players that got on the leaderboard by using inactive, less than 1 month old smurf accounts with low Elo and no posts! You should be proud of yourselves!

Is this behavior sanctioned by PGI? If I create an account named "VampirePEEFsmash" and take to the leaderboards next challenge and win, will it count?

REAL shoutouts to the other real top players that could make the boards without gaming the system and playing on fake accounts. It was a fun time, it was nice playing with you.

"Oh my gosh you guys. I finally won something."

Well not really. 4th isn't quite winning.

Had some really fun games last weekend anyway.

Why do you think I stopped playing after hitting 5th on the Jagermech boards? Was bored of the cheese, but wake up the next morning to 12 people just miraculously posting huge scores in less time. Might be time to set-up sleeper accounts, afk through the cadet bonus like most trial mechs and just save it for a tourney.

But seriously what do you get out of it? Name on a leaderboard that get's wiped anyway for the next solo only tourney...

Congrats to the winners! I started playing RIGHT before the last tournament, so I did fairly poor. This one I did a lot better, ended up 47th in Jagers. Looking forward to the next one! Hopefully I can be more of a threat to the top ten. I just hope they add component destruction to the next one as my favorite past times are running around ripping legs off AC40 jags and arms off of catapults/cataphracts/stalkers

PEEFsmash:

I just wanted to defend myself specifically because you called me out in-game due to my obviously unusual name. This is my first forum post, although I often lurk without signing in. I have played close to 1600 games, with a current win/loss record of 953/635, all as a PUG, and must have been in the same ELO bracket as you and other top players because I would regularly see most of you guys, and was matched up with eventual category winners right from the start.

I found this tournament to be very tough as a light pilot because of the insta-kill ability of the top assaults and heavies, which would ruin a good score by taking away a crucial assist or the opportunity to rack up damage with only 4 medium lasers.

Hat's off to the top light players for amassing so many high-scoring games. I only had 2 or 3 above 200 points.

My most frustrating game was when I was at 4 kills/3 assists, and was about to finish off an almost-cored commando that some other teammates and I were chasing, when some other teammates completed a cap! That game would have given me 5th place, but it's all a wash since other players probably had similar experiences.

Overall, I didn't really enjoy this tournament because of the constant pressure to "tag" every enemy to be assured of an assist as a baseline for a good score. It all became very mechanical and unnatural to me, and I was not playing in the best interest of my team every match, even though I mostly did my duty to cap in conquest games.

I played a few games at a time on Sunday, and gave up with a few hours left, despite only needing 3 extra points for 5th place. Fatigue and frustration caught up with me, and I was playing quite badly and losing many head-to-head fights by that point.

I can really appreciate the performances of the winners, especially in the light category!

I saw you enough times to know you were in high ELO and were really giving effort. Good showing, someone else!

I can vouch for 'someone else'. I've seen you play several times months before this tournament. Your name's easy to remember because whenever I see it a scene from a classic Simpson's episode plays in my head.

Ned: Since the police can't seem to get off their duff-a-roonies to do something about this burglar-ino, I propose we start out own neighborhood watch (pause) aroony! (everyone cheers) Now, who should lead the group?
Man: You!
Everyone: (cheering again) Flanders! Flanders! Flanders!
Ned: Well, I don't have much experience, but I'd be--
Moe: Someone else!
Everyone: (more cheers) Someone else! Someone else! Someone else!
Homer: I'm someone else!
Lenny: He's right!

I've seen at least 30 guys from top 15s in all categories in my games during sunday. They all played well and they all kicked my azz at some point.

@ someone else - really good jenner piloting man. Was really hard to blow your legs off.

@ someone else's haters and other general haters - Improve yourself instead of making up stories and excuses.

@ PGI - there is no point to hide peoples Elo score if your Elo matchmaker is really working. Let other people see winners Elo scores it'll stop all suspicions and trash talks.

Tourney formula isn't perfect but its getting there. I'm sure we'll see 1 on 1 fights between top 16 players soon enough when CW comes out.

Congratz to all winners. Thanks to everyone who participated. It was fun.

Why would anyone use another account for the competition? The prizes aren't that impressive (ridiculously tiny, actually), the real prize is to get your name up there on the scoreboard.

I used optimized builds and a playstyle tailored to the scoring system of the competition. It's not the way I normally play, but it was fun as a change.

Was a fun tournament, I've seen all the top players in almost every match I was in.

I was sweating bullets in alot of those games, I had to play just right in my Blackjack 1-X or get blown away by a PPC Stalker/Highlander.

Alot of rushing, flanking and hopping from cover to cover was essential.

Congratulations to my other fellow winners and runner-ups.

See you on the battlefield!

Great Idea. ;) ;)

I didn't Opt In this time and won't do for future solo tourneys. In my view the design is still broken. I'll hold off and wait until we get proper team tournaments.
