You will need to manually install a few programs.

Theres also several threads in this part of forum about same or nearly same issue with installation, check it first, please, before creating new one.

I'd asked support for help with the problem, so the answer (works for me, btw):

The vast majority of these errors can be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling with this program. Microsoft FixIt: http://support.micro...l_and_Uninstall

Also, please completely delete your Piranha Games folder (Default location is C:\Games)

You may also want to make sure that you have the right version of DirectX and the most up-to-date-versions of C++ and .NET
DirectX http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=35
Visual C++ http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=5555
.NET http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=22

Win 8 comes with .Net framework 4.0 and you can't go any lower.

same issue with DirectX9, it can't be loaded on to Win 8.

Before posting you should be more up to date on your information. Tis funny, others said the same thing when Vista, W7 and W8 went live and it is still incorrect information.

I will start with Dx9c. DX10/11 is not backward compatible. Vista+ OS' do come with a base version of dx9 but it does not have all the updated modules that many dx9 games require (if you even attempted to google you would realize that). DX9c is installed in its own location and does not overwrite dx10/11. A number of games, particularly those on discs, do and will install dx9c for the user but generally games downloaded do not include that.

Some system manufacturers will ensure that dx9c with all the necessary modules have been installed but those are the exceptions.

Problem Solved

I had the same error as the OP when installing on my Windows 8 Pro system. Manually installed programs per Tarl Cabot's post and it worked. Thanks for the help, Tarl (+Valdamar).

Just a note, I wasn't aware you could download the earlier .nets manually, but if you go to control panel/add remove programs/turn windows features on and off you can add .net 3.5 [includes .2x +3.0] straight from there.

wow. another epic failure by microsoft. i've been working on pc's for 20 years and windows 8 interface is a nightmare too, half my clients are totally confused, every1 goes back to 7, really sad to see such a fail with windows 8.

That particular poster is not up to date with his information. I find it about as funny as those who posted that directx 9c could not be installed nor was it needed on Windows 7 and 8 when they came out. ;) There may have been a few issues with Win8 on a particular method but is very doable.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)

http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=5555

You HAVE to get the x86 version, the installer doesnt like the x64 version
