Treated normally, in a FPS game where the player is able to pin point shoot, counting the torso mounted weapons a part of the torso would be too much of a penalty. These iconic mechs would be extremely susceptible to losing half their armaments, because of large side torso hitboxes.
A possible idea is to use give the shoulder mounted weapons a hitbox of their own. When the weapons are destroyed, the mech won't disable 1/2 of its armaments.
Shoulder mounted weapons would be given 1/2 of the armor/internal health of the torso it is attached to. So a madcat with 34 total armor points in its right torso will have 17 armor points on the right torso pod. Likewise, the right torso has 16 internal health, and the right torso pod has 8 internal health.

Look forward to seeing this one day
