Just me, or should they sorta get more firepower? Being able to mount an AC20 seems nice and all, until you realize a Centurion apparently can too. Except it is in the more flexible arm and it doesn't come with the drawbacks of a hunch...

Actually, they -can- add additional quirks to variants like this with disadvantages in hitbox sizes. Maybe the housing is so big that ACs placed in that hunch can be more effective? More range, less heat, slighty more damage (10%?) since the housing is more robust due to its specialized design.

Components in the hunch take 10%-20% less damage due to having more 'armor' around it? Reduced chances of critical hits on the right torso? There are a lot of possibilities that they can add to make it worth having that hunch.

They have already done something similar to open/close missile bay doors so I don't see anything wrong with this approach.

Give all my Hunchies 4 modules slots and a 300 Engine rating....that would be nice. xD

Give me the Komiyaba Type VIII (Hunchback)'s 5 series. Hopefully with a cosmetic difference.

Well, you could look at on the bright side. With everyone aiming for your hunch, most don't consider aiming for the legs. You can safely shave off a good ton of armor off those legs and use it for something else.

Man you're right.. I can't think of the last time I tried to leg a hunchie. its usually either cockpit, hunch or CT, depending on the hunchback load-out and whether it just overheated itself in front of me or not.

I might start tapping hunchies in the leg to see what they've got down there now.

Sometimes torso twisting doesn't help this mech. The hunch is just big.

thats why im always about 100m or less to an assault teammate...use the speed to zip in...fire off ac20 and ml salvo then find nearest cover...i even will use my assault teammate as cover if i have to

I think HBK's should have more armor on the hunch and less on the left torso. Anyone else agree?

In the mean time try putting a large laser or PPC on the left arm. That way you still have one big weapon after you lose the hunch.

HBK's are pretty tough to play right now with all the PPC highlanders and stalkers around, you lose the hunch so easily.

I have mastered my 4G and still bring it out to play time to time.

What I see other 4G doing wrong is this;
Unlike other chassis, the 4G you don't just torso twist away from enemy and wait for your AC20 to reload.
Even with your hump firmly pointing away, it still can be shot by enemy over your head.
Looking away and locking your torso in the same position will not cut it.

You need to jiggle like a worm being swarm by ants and spread that damage around.

Just thought I'd share this.

Been getting either high kills or at least around in the 500's, but this one had so many close encounters that I figure it's worth putting up.

Oh, in addition, I've done no "damage spreading dances" that match though except when one on one if I was under direct fire I'd take cover in the buildings and find some way to isolate my enemies to a more fair fight. The AC/2s are macro'd to fire 1 shot every 0.25 seconds, giving me a solid MG-like constant rate of fire. Technically that also means I'm doing the dps of 2 AC/2s with that pattern despite having 3 and it isn't focused too well.

What I have done is allocate 46 right front torso armor, and 2 rear. Out of 39 matches I have only lost the right hunch once (round 38). I've lost the CT 7 times and the LT 11 times. (Never said it was invincible).

Don't run in first in a fight with a hunch, what I've learned. It's nice to grab an assaults back and pop shots from behind them, or do clean-up when the fray is on.

Hey Kon,

I've tried the triple deuce setup in the G, I didn't have any weight left for any other weapons. I was running 4 tons of ammo in the legs + AMS. How much ammo are you running in that setup? The 3 AC2's sound awesome, but with only a firepower of 6, I just didn't feel like I was bringing any real damage. I switched back to 1 AC2, 1 ERLL, and 2 MPL's with 4 tons AC ammo.

How about the twin UAC5's? I haven't tried running them.

I've got 3 variants basic'd up, and working on my elites now. I have the G, the J and the P. So far the P is my favorite. 7 ML's and an ERLL. The J will be better when I save up the CBills for the target decay module. That one is 6 ML's and the stock twin LRM10's.

I do like the Hunchies. I might keep all 3.

Been hard lately pugging in them, no one seems to want to stay together in a group, and we've just been getting rolled by sync-dropping/premades. Hard to play support role that way, but it's not the Hunchies fault.

When I run with three, group-fired, ac/2's in my dragon, I have 7 tons of ammo. That seems just about right.

Borrowing from Koniving's idea, it looks like you can do this in the hunchback as well:

Knnniggett,

I see you're running an XL. Not sure I'm brave enough to do that. I'm still running the stock 200 engine. It's slow as hell, but if I'm in a team that actually stays together, I can usually keep up and stay with the assaults, which is my role imo.

I have my hunch shot off about 2-3 out of 5 matches. Funny how they ignore the ERLL in my left arm, and I have the "zombie" MPL in my head.

--EDIT

And I take it you're a Monty Python fan?

Oh, right. I was thinking Dragon when I slapped that build together. I've got my morning coffee in me now and can think more clearly. I think.

Here is something with the STD 200 engine:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9c67cff3bfe4ed9

In order to fit the 7th ton of ammo, I stole some armor off the left arm and moved the small laser to the head as a consequence . It'll converge weird with the other small laser, but the idea is to avoid having to use them in the first place, right? You could easily run with 6 tons and change things back.

Something about Monty Python and MWO seem to go together...with mechs running around with their arms off. Heck, maybe we will someday get to see a black knight in the game, eh? Time-line permitting.

Now go and bring me a shrubbery!

Lol,

With that free ton of weight, you could save yourself the CBills and not put on FF armor, or go ahead and armor up your legs and arms all the way.

Based on Koniving's screenshot, I figure it would look something like this.

Kon's AC/6

Yeah, there are certainly a lot of ways you could slice it.

I'm pretty patient when it comes to grinding cbills so I tend not to look at the cost of things that use them.

Oh look at that, he did use an XL engine. And now I see why I was thinking XL.... he didn't say it. It was in the screenshot.

Hey Kon,

The right torso hunch is armored 46 front 2 rear. This combined with the 48 internal keeps the Hunch alive.

The rig generates too much heat, there's also the XL 255 engine to keep it fast.
3 tons and I make them last with this macro which gives me a constant MG rate. Macro's set to fire with Q; because people will cry when I press it twice. So long as you hold it it's like an oversized machine gun with no pause in fire.

Spoiler

Don't charge people head on. It was frozen city, I dropped by Theta in assault and came up behind enemies. Engaged a few and when they shot at me I leaped off the cliff. Some dumb Jenner followed me and didn't have enough jumpjets to escape.

Later I took on an Atlas who had ER large lasers and an AC/20. Wait until AC/20 is fired at someone else, charge in. Fire at AC/20 side. Dodge AC/20 (not as easy as it sounds but with the cockpit shake he's suffering it isn't hard either; just a matter of timing as you have 4 seconds between each shot). With his lasers he overheated. Took his shoulder out, then went CT since it was already cored by supporting LRM fire (part of what made him miss me).

At the end there was a Raven and a Founder's C1. The splat cat capturing the base with me got him and the Catapult C1 with 4 medium lasers and 2 SRM-6s was a pain to fight with yellow and orange torsos. All 3 torsos were dark orange at the end.

The point though is I kept going in, hitting what I could and then I'd get out of there. Constantly leaping off that cliff to get away when I got focused, only to be ignored or in the Jenner's case I was chased to his death. Then I'd slip back in. I only use all 3 AC/2s at the same time in emergencies because it generates too much heat.

The actual build, btw.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a27045c2580187b

I have a fear of losing my legs a 20% chance of ammo explosion from losing 2 tons of ammo in my right leg is too high a risk. The DHS in each torso is to soak the damage done by weapons to preserve both my ammo and my cannons.

Also note the RT armor allocation. That is crucial as your right side hunch on the left, right, front, and back, counts as "right front torso." Only a strip counts as your rear as shown in the pictures on the first page. Hardly anyone ever shoots there.

Internal hitpoints are half the total armor value of the component. So you have 46 front, 2 rear, and 24 internal. The cockpit is the only exception which has 18 armor and 15 internal hp.

Another person out of date. Click here. http://mwomercs.com/community Listen to NGNG 79. 32 minutes to 40. Russ Bullock explains that they considered doubling internal structure, only to realize that Paul had already done it back when they doubled armor in closed beta. Armor and Structure are equal.
Oh and the cockpit has 18 internal hp.

They also explain the long term plans for fixing the PPC issue through the use of a splash mechanic, after rewriting the CryEngine's base explosive damage mechanic to take subtract a percentage from a damage pool to "splash" around (Take 10, subtract 25%, splash 3 damage and divide it to the affected areas and put 7 at impact site) rather than multiply a base damage (take 10 damage, multiply by 25%, generate 25 damage to each area splashed and 10 at the impact site; this would be the original SRM and LRM issue).
