I haven't really seen this mentioned anywhere, so thought I would ask. When the team roster fills in at the start of a match, are the players "ranked" by elo in the roster? It just looks like that's what's been happening at least in my recent matches.

Just wondering really.

Not really. Sometimes I think I see a pattern, but most of the time it looks random by the end of the game.

It probably is a little ranked if you factor the bucket it tried to grab from (those players it found first) vs ping times (to load into list first). It all gets thrown out if you have any teams as well, as they will skew the load order completely for at least one lance per team. This makes it almost impossible to judge - therefore better to assume its not ranked.

on a side note, i wish the player's name was highlighted in some way so it would be easier to find

I don't know if it is or not. I actually believe at the start it goes by who is brought into the match first. Loading order.

After that as you start gaining points MWO rearranges them based on your score.

For example if you start on the bottom, get a kill and capture a few bases while the other players have just shot some things, you get thrown to the top of your lance in the TAB order.

At the end, each lance's members are listed in the order of highest to lowest match score.

Kon,

Right, I've seen the match score change ranks at the end of the match. This is during the initial start up, while waiting for the entire roster to fill in, you see new players filling in and bumping other names either up or down on the list as it fills in. It doesn't seem to have any correlation to chassis, or drop weight, or ping times. But there is definitely a reordering of the ranks going on.

And it just seems that lately, if there are any players under me on the roster, they seem to be playing more or less exceptionally noobish (as I'm still noobish myself).

So it was making me wonder as I notice it more.

It sorts people by groups, so that if you join as a group of 2,3 or 4 mechs you will be in the same lance. Hence the bumping you see up and down the list.

Also, it "jumbles" people on the other side so you don't know who is in the same lance (so you don't get the impression that there are 2 4-man groups against you and rage quit). For example when synch dropping against each other, I'll know that 4 of our guys are in one lance on the other side, but they get re-ordered to appear to be in different lances and at the end they appear in their correct lance.

An easy "trick" to see if the enemy has any unannounced DC players is to look for players with 0 ping. If any enemy, or your, team has a player with 0 ping then they aren't present in the match.

As far as the jumble, if you see four of the same house on the other side, it's highly probable that it's a four-man. Particularly on week nights.

Thanks for the 0 ping tip.
