I recently acquired a new computer, (came today actually) which according to everything I have should run MWO fine but is only getting about 9-15 fps. Here are the specs

Processor: AMD A8-5500 (3.2GHz)
Processor Core: Quad-core
Memory: 8GB DDR3 (PC3-12800)
Max Memory: 32GB
Memory Slots: 4
Graphics: Radeon HD 7560D
Hard Drive: 1TB SATA (7200rpm)
Optical Drive: SuperMulti DVD±RW
Audio Codec: Integrated IDT 92HD73E
Sound: Built-in HD 8-Channel with Jack Sensing
Network: 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
Wireless: 802.11b/g/n
Any suggestions as to what the issue is or what needs changing/ upgrading?

the Radeon HD 7560D may be your problem coz its an integrated GPU

but try running on 720p on low to see if the fps goes up

update the drivers for the graphics as the factory stock drivers are outdated

I didn't think about the drivers, I'll try that thanks. Yeah that fps was sadly on low. didn't change much on medium though.

updating all the drivers you can on that brand new Pc may help, at least its a great place to start. than go to you power options in windows and change what you can to a max performance profile......

if you want to try beta drivers

google for CCC 13.6 beta 2 drivers

see if you can access the BIOS to adjust the video ram capacity used, you should be using max 512MB

APUs are highly dependent on RAM speed so if you want more FPS can try overclocking your RAM.

PC12800 DDR3 are rated at 1600Mhz isn't really fast but

unless the RAM are decent

do not try to overclock the RAM or you end up having fried RAM sticks as your bacon replacement

btw OP what is the brand of the desktop?

I believe the OP's computer is the HP p6-2427c (I'll let the OP confirm this). I actually just purchased this computer as well and I am having the same fps problems. At 1024x768 and quality set on low I only get 12 fps average. Increasing to 720p and quality set at high and vsync on only drops it to 9 fps. I've been interested in overclocking it, but since I am running Windows 8, instead of loading the typical BIOS screen after f2 on startup, it loads the new UEFI interface--which completely lacks any ability to adjust my BIOS settings :)

Try Switching from Windows 8 to Windows 7, See if that Helps?

I've done some more research and I think the situation might be that my mobo doesn't provide any tweaking services in the BIOS :)
How can I increase the RAM the GPU is using?

If you can get a hold of an a10-4600 + (laptop chip not desktop apu) and fell confident about a hardware choice you will be able to run the game full bore.

Otherwise the A8 is not going to give you the greatist performance

Found one on ebay

Hope this helps!!

If I were to get a discrete graphics card, would I not see any gains because of my 1600MHz memory, or would it make a noticeable difference? I guess I'm asking if my current specs would bottleneck any improved performance from adding a discrete video card?

A discrete graphics card has it's own (often very fast) memory, so memory performance is irrelevant in that case.

the cpu isn't very fast but with a decent discrete gpu it shouldn't be a problem to play at 30 fps in a bit of a fight, and higher if not much is going on.

if you have a small case chances are you'll need a low profile gpu (can be hard to find one with reasonable performance), might also be required to upgrade the psu for the gpu, which might be even harder if it's a strange form factor.

The A8 5500 is a desktop APU which uses a different socket. Honestly the OP would be best off either returning the computer for a model with the A10 5700 or to buy a discrete GPU that will fit. Alternatively faster RAM will help some as well.

or build a computer instead of buying one off the shelf.

yeah my bad. got it in my head he was dealing with a laptop... in which case the FM2+ should support a richland 6800k (sound like a broken record)
Which would give him 4.4 ghz turbo and 8000 series apu. 149 about the same cost as a decent graphics card, and the richland runs the game very well.

Hope this helps!

Guessing someone buys this kind of computer or an A8 processor to begin with is on a budget. In which case the best bang for the buck upgrade to make an improvement will be some kind of discrete (separate) video card.

Have a look here:
http://www.tomshardw...iew,3107-2.html

Radeon 6670 -> 7750 -> 7770

The 7750 is probably the sweet spot in terms of bang for your buck between those three.
Open box for $75...
http://www.newegg.co...VirtualParent=1

Way better spend of money to improve gaming performance versus improving from an A8 APU to an A10

If you do buy a discrete gpu, make sure it fits and the psu is up to the job.
