It seems to have a huge impact on fps 10-20 depending on whats going on.
So usually my 30-40 is 45-55. Just way smoother overall.

Can you look into it please and it might allow people on lower/mid spec systems to enjoy a smoother gaming experience.

Press F9 to turn on FPS counter.
Hold right shift and F11 to turn off HUD.

NOTE: i remember when 12 mans started the mini map changed is that it?

By HUD do you mean targetting and such?

This is true, i had to paint a crosshair in my screen because the FPS increase without HUD is more than 10 !

FIX fast!

I'll try this out tonight. I'm interested to see what it does for my performance. I play on an older mid-level gaming laptop. I generally get 30-40 fps in game.

You can't play properly with it off but it points to something that needs adjusting, I know when 8 mans were the thing the mini map looked different maybe the new mini map is hogging resources. Guys with high spec machines won't notice but most players who use mid level systems will indeed notice it.

I've noticed this since closed beta, so its not just because the minimap was changed when 12v12 came around. The HUD is horribly optimized. I've never seen a game where the HUD has such a huge impact on the framerate. Also when you're spectating after being killed, the framerates are higher than when you're playing too, even with the HUD on, which is also something I noticed since closed beta. One thing I did realize is that when spectating, the selected weapon group and group assignments aren't shown. So could that oddly be what somehow eats up the framerates?

A hud should not eat into fps like this, the calculations involved number counting etc are going on regardless of it being on or off a simple display should not be so taxing.

The guys who coded this HUD have to wake up. I have a feeling that there's unnecessary complex things going on behind it all, which is why it had so MANY bugs a while ago: the WWWWWW bug, the rainbow minimap, the no minimap, the kaleidoscope bug, the floating targeting box in advanced zoom, etc. I bet I missed quite a few. The HUD even bogs down the fps in testing grounds too.

I believe it has to be redesigned to be much simpler both in what we see and what we don't see. The outlines on the boxes are unnecessary, also the transparency on the boxes I think should be a toggle-able option, the upper and lower torso icons on the compass are redundant seeing how the minimap shows both in a more effective way and it also gets in the way of friendly/enemy and base markers, the outlines that go from the compass to the vision mode do nothing at all and the outer outlines representing the pilot visor, very unnecessary.

Been known for a long time. Basically since people first got to try the game in friends and family probably. CB most definately. I brought this exact issue up in CB.

The base of Scaleform / actionscript is...............not very well done from my knowledge. (not PGI's fault, and they have been obv fixing it along the way just like other problems within the engine or parts of it.)

For someone with a cpu powerful enough to run the game, turning off the HUD wont really see any increase in FPS.

For someone on the limit or under it, they will.

My old Pentium D EE 3.2 got a 10 - 20fps boost from turning off the HUD (would run at around 15-20fps with it on).....obviously you cant really play like that very well tho........

Only thing pgi can really do is try to clean up the code / make it more efficient, or just replace the whole thing with a non-fancy setup.

It will be interesting to see if star citizen suffers the same problem , or if they have already cleaned it up a lot. (as it uses it heavily)

ok i tried it i got a little aroun 4-12 FPS increase some one reported a solid 10 nice ;) its a bit hard to play this way but the cockpit is a lot more beautiful i would love to play without all these silly huge HUD pieces
just a croshair in the middle map on one of the monitors or on all of them the weapon ready should be just some LEDs lighting up on the Frame waoo that would be so nice

1. This belongs in the patch feedback subforum.

2. The HUD FPS drop depends a lot on your hardware configuration. I see virtually no difference on my PC (Core i5, Radeon HD6950).
