Kintaro Is As Bad As People Claim

However, that has all changed. Currently with the broken Toros, the Kintaro IS that bad.
Oh my god this mech is all but unplayable right now. With the bugged CT it just dies in seconds.
My recommendation is to hold off on this mech until after the Sept 3rd patch and hopefully it fixes this mech so it has at least some survivability. If it doesn't really change up the hitboxes pretty drastically then avoid this mech like the plague.
As of right now, mine is going into storage for a couple weeks.

That was the plan, after seeing how shocking the Golden Boy was on the field I decided I wouldn't buy a Kintaro at all unless they fixed the hitboxes. Since the Hitbox fix is coming 2 weeks after the CBill release, I'm going to hold off until they either announce what the September mech is, or whether they have actually fixed the hitbox of the Kintaro (looks good as a heavy hit and run brawler).

Yes, its true. It has a huge CT and you die almost to a 100% getting CT-cored. However, playing trebs and highlanders is much the same. Dragon and Cat pilots would probably agree too.
I am running a KTO-18 with XL300, 2xLL and 5xSSRMs and its a decent mech. K/D ratio in 20 matches is 2.23. Average damage per match is 343, which is pretty good I think.
Just don't play it as a frontline mech but stay in the second line and rock cockpits with streaks or whatever missile type you have loaded. It's actually not a bad mech (might need some tweaks though) but you definitely must adjust your plastyle.
Just my two cents

I certainly notice that ct gets hit more often, but having stuck in a 355 engine I'm fast enough to be able to move in and out of cover, and it seems to eat lights for breakfast.

The Kintaro is just a bit worse than othe mechs.
I don't try running it as brawler. It's too fragile for that role. Either play it as long range supporter or light mech hunter.

It seems KTO is go near max speed or go home.
Other wise, I have mastered dragon and awesome. Another CT tower isn't a big deal to me.
KTO and YLW seem to be competing for the "best light hunter" title.

Yep. The dragon always gets hit in the CT, from every angle too. Its the main reason the Dragon is considered one of the worst mechs in the game.

I can see the Kintaro being kind of bad with a large CT just because it is a lighter mech than the ones above.
I think they could stand to do some hitbox tweaking on this mech.

The only one I seem to be drawn to is the KTO-18. None of the other standard variants seems to call to me. So, I'll be skipping them since I don't want to buy 3 of them to get through the basics to master the 18. I'll just wait for the Shadow Hawk for my 55 tonner.

It's a bad brawler for sure if you can't put a big XL in it. It's a GREAT sniper though with the high mount left torso hard point. My 1C (has 2 hard points there), 1N (or is it the 5N) and Flame all have a weapon in the LT that can shoot far until I need to brawl. In addition, my 1C also has an LRM10 to keep the long range pressure on.

It's not a free kill, as it can lay out some serious damage in the right hands, but its opponents have the unfair advantage of being able to spray fire at it and mostly be assured that they're going to hit CT.

In any case, despite the similar loadouts I average 335 damage per match in the JM6-A and only 108 damage per match in KTO-18 simply because the KTO gets cored so quickly. That is a pretty huge difference in performance for two mechs with very similar loadout and protection. Again keep in mind the KTO is much faster and more agile as well which should actually INCREASE its performance not make it worse.
No there is definately something wrong be it the CT hitboxes or maybe another bug with damage that we don't know about.

Been running it with a 300xl engine, 2LL, 3SRM6 with 2 tons of ammo, 1 ML and 13 DHS. It's fragile, it's hot, and it's fun xD

Assuming the fix is good, it will be a nasty mech with a working CT.

My slightly refined build.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c94b646ace65107
And here's what I can do with that exact build (24/08/13 at 2pm GMT).

804 damage, 3 (WELL EARNED) kills and 7 assists with my LRM support to team mates, and having the highest match score of 108. I know it's unreliable posting only one match, but it's just an example to say that it isn't a bad 'mech.
At the end of the match however as I brawled with a Quickdraw and Highlander, my CT was but one machine gun bullet away from exploding. The upcoming fix is well needed, and I'm glad they have recognised it.
Yes the CT needs refinement but that's already coming in the first September patch, which will allow it to be a better SRM brawler, as currently I find it difficult to brawl against more than one 'mech. That aside, I haven't had any issue with it thus far!
And have you seen the LRM holes?! You can have as many as you like!
