Seems like the vote is one-sided. :)

If they do this, they should tie in the command console into the feature somehow.

As it is it's 3 tons and 1 slot and does jack. Sounds like the concept and that thing could be linked maybe?

There are a lot of players in game (not me, personally, but I know they are out there!) who have dedicated hours of playtime to learning visual mech recognition so that they can scout and report opposition strength and composition. Introducing this kind of thing, whilst it would be a great addition to enable such support to be REWARDED (XP and CBills), automates that recognition, rendering the hours of effort wasted in all but extreme-range recognition circumstances. Players who have dedicated such time to develop a skill could easily, I think, feel that this sort of approach would be a dumbing-down of a game for which there are already plenty of threads in these forums accusing the developers of just that!

I could be wrong... those who have dedicated such time may well welcome this as negating their need to keep up-to-date on such things.

Don't get me wrong... I agree that the role of Scout should be in-game. It is already here, and is relatively easy to do (especially in a group with voice-comms). The biggest complaint I have with scouting right now is the lack of reward for the role (unless TAGing, NARCing or just holding lock in an LRM-supporting role) in the form of XP / CBills. This proposal addresses this nicely, with the fringe benefit of actually making that Command Console more than the expensive paperweight it currently is. It's just a shame that implementing it would almost completely take one of the hard-earned skills out of the game.

No. Simply No.

Information Warfare. If your Team is good enough to Id and convey that info quickly enough. Then you know what mechs the enemy has. There is no reason for your team to get a "Cheat sheet" on what the enemy mechs are.

I understand how nice it would be. And I don't think it's game breaking (to a degree)

But I think this is something that should be left to the players skill.

What about awarding scout 'Mechs for their work on the battlefield? I think this game is too focused on damage.

honestly id like to see the scoreboard be completely blank to begin with
so we dont even know if the enemy has 12 players or not
then expand it out so as your scounts gather intel, the scoreboard populates with name, chassis, variant
perhaps even last seen HP%

Make it a Module? I'd take that over "Hill Climb".

I like the idea of a completely blank scoreboard at start of match!

A lot of players (not including me) practiced for hours at pop-tarting too.
Adding JJ screen shake make all those players skill useless. Am i fine with that? YES, so am i with this thread.

Great idea, hope you'll manage to reach PGI's ears.
Time to get informations could also be modified by the use of a tag/bap/narc/command console.

A sound idea. it puts more duty on the lights than base caps and dancing with atlases.

Apologies if I perhaps wasn't clear in what I was saying in my post...

I LIKE the idea of this thread. I think it would be a positive addition to the game. I am merely pointing out that there are some here who will complain (and I would sympathise with them on this) that it is essentially rendering the skills they have taken time to learn obsolete.

Maybe this complaint could be mitigated by only relaying information to teammates on targets locked that are less than (for example) half the scout's effective sensor range?

I voted yes I like this idea.

Something to think about:

Spotting bonus was a little like this in Beta. You had some people run full bore to the other team, they would try to get first spotting bonus on as many as they could no matter the result to their mech. Or in other words, they would kill themselves to get these bonus, then exit out jump in a new mech and do it again. So the reward scale needs to be such that it does not encourage this exploit.

Great Idea, I want it

I must say no to this because it will dumb down game, all you have to do is JJ over wall and detect everything its lame how easy it would be.

I like this, but just because it would drive people mad.

Useless? With a few minutes of time you should be able to make enough adjustments for the hours of previous training to begin the compensation.

You would jump jet over a wall and acquire one (two or three with the skills and right situation{as it was stated that it should not be instant and would need to be relayed some time after}) and retreat or move in and try to collect more at the risk of not getting that information out, or worse yet.. dieing after only naming the enemy.
