Hello,
I'm bothered by UAC at every game launch. I'm pretty much aware about the maelstrom of "WAAAAAAH just press yes on the notice" that is rapidly approaching to this thread right as i type. I'd like to apply a little bit of logic to the patcher app(the mwoclient.exe doesn't need UAC after all). The patcher is running on an elevated state even when it shouldn't and drags the game thread along the ride.

The correct logic should be:

1. Start in user realm
2. Check the current version and compare to the website
2a. If the versions match, run the game as it is
2b. if the versions are different, elevate the process, patch it and kill the launcher

This simple checklist will avoid useless notices, the only UAC you need to care about this way is the /5 version which I prefer to the windows admin nofications ;)

It shouldn't be much work for the dev team so i hope it will be implemented ;)

I understand what you're saying, but that is a primary ad-space, so we're not likely going to see any removal of it.

I didn't get an Ultra auto-cannon with my Win 7 disk... ripped off ;-)

Thats not what He's saying. The patcher shouldn't be asking for elevated permissions unless it actually needs them (i.e. need to actually patch the program). otherwise it could operate exactly as is now.

The way I read it was 'if game is patched currently, head straight to the launcher', but that's just my interpretation.

I was really hoping this would go away after launch.

I now have two games that do this, the other is Progress Quest.

This makes sense for Progress Quest since it was last updated in 2003 before UAC existed, but I really just can't think of a valid reason for MWO to prompt every single time.

Guess it's time to give up the wishful thinking on this one.
