My suggestion is to add a 'pilot certification tree' to the pilot lab, that would allow players to purchase a few starter mechs with GXP. This would give new players more stuff to play with; more stuff is always good.

Example :

Light Mech certification ( 1,000 GXP ) Rewards player with a Commando.
Medium Mech certification ( 5,000 GXP ) Rewards player with a Centurion.
Heavy Mech certification ( 7,500 GXP ) Rewards player with a Quickdraw.
Assault Mech certification (15,000 GXP ) Rewards players with an Awesome.

GXP isn't earned fast enough to warrant something like this. You'd probably have one of each mech through C-Bills before you earned enough GXP to get the Assault Mech Certification.

They need to come up with things to spend GXP on for people who have been playing for a while and actually have enough to spend on stuff.
