Good.

Always thought the premium time per lance leader was just asking way too much.

For 12 versus 12, no one needs premium time unless you want to change advanced options, in which case only the person starting the match needs it.

That's also not true - if you want to change anything like drop-weight restrictions, you still need 2 people with PT - one on each team.

Kon, I think your confusion results from the way the devs use the term "lance" for anywhere from 3-12 'mechs. I forget which command chair post it was, but I distinctly remember seeing something like, "we are committed to the concept of the lance, that is, three 'mechs of the same weight class all working together." It made my brain hurt a bit.

Bottom line is: one premium time player per team, and he/she has to be the one that does the inviting.

Seriously? One per team? That's not how PGI explained it before it came out in the NGNG podcast talking about it. They basically said requiring premium time from the "leader of the lobby" in the original description.
Though I see this has explained it better.

Yeah the leader of the lobby can change all kinds of restrictions (except making it not 12v12) by having premium time. Having the team leader of the second team possess premium time, allows for launching non 12v12 matches.

Mkay that makes a bit more sense.

You can tell I haven't paid much attention since the big original (hidden) announcement that it was coming.

Yeah, can't fault you with that one. I had similar misconceptions, until I started doing private matches. They are crazy fun. I swear the reason we have more fun in them (aside from running trial builds) is the fact that there are fewer players on each team. Non 12v12 becomes a bit more intense sometimes. Although I guess having EVERYONE on the same comms channel does add to the fun of it.

Gimme this perspective as an optional "spectator" player, and then I'll care for it a bit more.

Quick rules of thumb:

12 v 12 private lobby, and all you want to pick is game mode - no PT

12 v 12 private lobby, but you want to choose a specific map, or set tonnage limits - 1 person needs PT,

Any number of players that is not 12 v 12 (i.e. 1v1, 2v2, 4v4 or even something like 6v3 or whatever) - 2 people need PT, one on each team

12v12 private lobby you can only choose game mode if no one have PT.
12v12 private lobby, only the match creator need PT to modify options, except the "yes/no" full team one.
XvY each team must have one player with PT.

Here's an idea, HOW BOUT THEY JUST LET US PLAY THE ******* GAME. I've already bought mechbays and mechs. They should let us set up whatever match we want as long as it's been programmed into the game. GRRRRRRRRRRR.
