I try to offer constructive suggestions like, " [name] minimum range of lrms is 180m". Sometimes, if I see a player who is not doing a good job at all, I will ask, "[name] r u a new player?" Not to start flaming them, but to see if they can use some help after I'm dead. Sometimes I will even ask at the start of a match if there are new players on my team. I honestly can't fault new players for not having full control of their mechs; this game has a pretty steep learning curve. But, when I see a player who is driving a mech that they had to either spend c-bills fpr or mc doing poorly, I will generally try to offer suggestions. If they don't take them and don't respond, I will try to start a conversation with them in team chat. About the most disparaging thing I will type in all chat is, 'well-played enemy. Us, not so much.' I think that overall the more experienced players tend to be a lot more easy going. Granted, I play with some excellent competitive players, but the vast majority of our comments slamming our team are kept on comms, not on in-game chat. Even then, it's more about, why did so-and-so do this instead of that?

Positive or useful feedback is much better for making a comunity. I know I try to let players know about things like that, though often new players aren't 100% sure about comms either, so they can easily miss useful tips like that.

I also report the offensive ones. Thankfully I don't see too many. This games isn't COD, or Halo.

I expect jerks to abound, but that doesn't mean I can't try and help make this little corner better, either by helping them become better people or by helping run off the incorrigible ones.

I start off my emails to support with "Hi, it's me again!!" ;) What's sad is I make a list of offensive names, comments etc and only send a report when I get several. FTR, no I don't report everyone I see. Just because I personally find a name distasteful doesn't mean it should be reported/changed.

I've seen it in other matches as well, and I just want to know why are people so overly hostile? It seems to be as toxic as League of Legends, and thats saying something.....

People wrongly think that liberty = the ability to do ANYTHING you want (instead of what it really is - to be free to do what you morally SHOULD do).

They also seem to think that supressing ANY of their desires is an immoral act.

Combine that with the fact that MWO caters to an age range that's not been known for it's maturity since the dawning of the idea of "adolescence" (it used to be you were a kid, than you were an adult, no in-between).

MWO is just exhibiting the fruits of the way society at large thinks.

The best you can do is just be a good example of decency while trying to be anything BUT smug about it. People smell arrogance and fakery even when it's NOT there. No reason to give them excuse.

That attitude is best summed up in the quote "If you think America is free, try going into a deli and ******* on the cheese!" I think it comes from a song. Totally misses the point of the deli owner's right to be free from harassment by idiots who like to whiz on cheese.

I saw a guy post on MWO's Facebook commenting on all the jackas-ses. After that I started actually paying attention and it's true. And after realizing I had been one to people I decided I'd rather not.

Its just the internet. People say things and cower behind anonymity...

Whats with all people being so über PC in this topic? Has this thread being taken over by the hypocrit faction? Where are the earnest people? Blaming your team for losing (where applicable), calling people out for playing blatantly poor even against better advice (where applicable) is entirely ok. I lost count of the times where I advised against a tactic and saw the newbs getting splattered. Sure enough there is are no badges in game indicating credibility/experience, hence it's difficult for nwbs to judge who's in the position to give advice, but on the other hand: If you were just new to the game, you could still use common sense - provided that youre even ready to listen to other people at all - and this is where it fails quite often and this is where the blame hammer comes - thats 100% fine.

That's true but people respond better when the criticism isn't hostile. It's not about PC, it's about being a decent human being.

I think you need to re-read the posts, and/or check your ego at the door.

For example, the PUGs started using a tactic that you didn't think would work, it failed, and so you are automatically right? You sure it didn't fail because ONE guy messed up? Or the other team had 2 four mans in a successful sync drop?

Screaming at you for being ******* ***** wouldn't change your mind here would it? No? Then why would it change their mind in game?

Don't you think that politely pointing out a mistake and suggesting an alternative would work better?

The most offensive comments I find are the "GG" or "Good game" comments from the winning team at the end of 8+ to 4- stomps. I understand the 'GG, close' comments, because they're obviously meant to inflame, and I can write them off as just being regular defecation orifices. People who steamroll some other team, while either lonewolfing or in some 4 man group, who sincerely think it was a good game, can go Die In A Fire.

Keep your 'good sportsmanship' to your own team chat. No one on the losing team, other than people who have been conditioned to lose in real life, appreciates someone telling them good game after they got rolled.

When I lose in a roll, and you say "GG", and you get my response of "DIAF", don't be too shocked. You deserve it, and I mean it. Clueless people steal oxygen from real humans.

So you cry whenever someone says GG? Wow, you have issue's bud.

I'd hate to see what you do when I do my friendly "LOL" after I kill someone who slips up. Do I get a real life death threat?

Strange.

I had thought that a "GG" after a stomping could also mean "I'm amazed that you put up with that without rage quitting. GG on you."

I've even seen it used that way.

Every once in a while we out to stop and ask ourselves "how do I know?"

The other day there was some dip typing "gg no re" after every single kill his premade's team scored but surprisingly, I find that this player base is among the most positive and polite I've ever come across.

Dude,
Mature a little. Its no different than walking by the winning team shaking hands after getting blown out in baseball or soccer.

You sir, are a "very selfish person."

Just because you didn't enjoy yourself, kindness needs to be punished with fire.

Yea, I don't know if I agree with that either. I say it win or lose and it doesn't bother me to see it when I'm on the losing end of a steam roll either. As you said, 'gg close" is blatantly malicious...'gg' is only malicious if you make wild assumptions.

Unfortunately the internet allows people with less then stellar people skills and or damaged personalities to say and do things they wouldn't dream of doing in the real world.

Thus we get people who show themselves badly. Unfortunately for us this game seems to be attracting more and more of them. I can barely stand to read the text in game anymore.

Because there is ZERO chance they are just trying to be nice right? Or that their mechs are shot to pieces and the final score doesn't tell the whole story?

Also, wanting people to die a horribly painful death over a comment in a game is likely the sign of serious mental issues. You might want to seek help for that. Or else use the term "figuratively".
