So I've been toying around with the MWO in-game assets a lot lately. At first I started simply because I wanted to see if Cry Engine scale humans were actually in scale with the mechs to settle an argument in KONG, and just like I believed, they were! So then I moved on to see if the in-game pilot model would actually fit inside the mechs, and barring a few horribly out of scale mechs (COUGH, COMMANDO, COUGH), he surprisingly does fit inside most of the mechs, so I decided to make a series of images showing how the pilot would enter the mech inside the mechbay! These are all made using assets that exist in MWO:

Stalker/Raven:

Hunchback:

Commando (The pilot doesn't actually fit inside the Commando, as it is, it's too small to even fit a human, even if he squeezed in there he would NOT fit or be able to see anything):

Awesome:

Please excuse any weird stuff in the images, I'm still a complete amateur at using Blender.

I can take requests for mechs you want to see being entered, but don't expect them to be done quickly as I'm super busy with school.

Here is a sneak peak at another scene I'm currently working on using Crysis Assets:

And on a unrelated note, I wish PGI would design better buildings for our city maps, I know they do it for gameplay purposes but the buildings in River city look so toyish and awful, the mechs look pretty amazing next to the realistic CrySDK buildings:

Please see the rest of the thread for lots more images! I'll put all the images in one imgur folder later on so you don't have to go through all the pages.

Here's some examples of the pilot fitting inside the Raven, and yes, that's your in-game pilot, he exists in the game files, ignore his weird head, the one in-game is headless and PGI just re-used Psycho's head for the full pilot body (Psycho from Crysis Warhead)

This is kinda cool. Nice work.
I wished that you could see the pilots ingame.
That Raven pic is awesome.

Well, you can...sort of, he IS actually there in-game when you play, it's just that you can only see his arms and legs obviously since you are the pilot.

Yeah, I knew that, I meant that you could see your enemy piloting the mechs, just like your screenshot here:
I would try to headshot more mechs then. Kill the meat, save the metal!

I think he meant seeing inside the cockpits of other mechs instead of simple plain "glass".

EDIT: Steiner now have ninja's... be afraid, be very afraid. ;)

Very awesome work.

The one you are working on with the Crysis(?) characters and the Spider looks epic as ****! Can't wait to see more!!

It would be pretty great to get a pilot entering a Shadow Hawk ;)

It would make anyone reluctant to pilot the Spider...

Most would feel right at home in an Atlas though (on a side note, the Atlas is another one of those mechs that isn't in proper scale! See the vent next to it's "mouth"? It blocks the pilots feet! In order to fit into the cockpit like he does in-game the eye would have to be higher on it's head, otherwise the pilot would have to sit higher up and he wouldn't be able to see anything):

I could do that next, it would be extremely easy considering the Shadowhawk just has a little hatch on the back of it's head.

It's fun to note that most of the mech entrance hatches are actually pretty easily movable:

The Commando's sliding entrance hatch:

The Awesomes entry hatch:

That thing is said to lack a proper ejection mechanism... after all. :D

Oh, and I kinda forgot to tell you how much I admire and like these shots, so here you go. ;)

I've been wondering about that...since it has an ejection handle in the cockpit, but where does he eject from?

The top hatch can blow out but it'd be a tight fit and he might lose an arm if he doesn't tuck in:
Posted Image

And he sure as hell can't eject through the entry hatch, as the thing is already a tight fit:

As I said, Spider doesn't have any ejection system.

Quote from TRO:3085: "Boasting a very different look, the redesigned 8R was also notable for being the first Spider to include an ejection system." 8R being Jihad era design from 3084 that has done complete redesign of the chassis. Even earlier sources always give Spiders the No Ejection Mechanism quirk.

So as far as this is concerned, we're looking at a misstep on the developer's part.
Just consider it a dummy to make the pilot feel safe.

Oh, and as far as ejection systems go, I haven't checked myself, but I'm 98% sure PGI/Alex haven't thought about the Catapult's nifty quirk when it comes to these things... it ejects sideways. ;)

Someone wanted the Shadowhawk right?

Because of the way new mechs are loaded into MWO, I have to manually build and texture them piece by piece so it'll take a bit, but here's a preview of how the Shadowhawks entry hatch works, it looks like it slides downward:

After the Hunchie could you make a Shadow Hawk and/or a Catapult? Possibly with the ejection test?

Haruko, check the latest page on the HowTo. Tekadept provided a great video on how to automate assembling the new mechs from the components in Blender.

Oh thank god now I don't have to manually rename a million pieces.

Sure, I already looked at the Catapult earlier though and it sure as hell can't eject sideways, I don't see anything that looks like a hatch, I'm assuming the Shadowhawk probably has a top hatch, though I haven't looked at it too closely in-game.

On the F-14, the entire canopy jettisons prior to the pilots. It's probably the same in the Catapult. Just remove the top half and there is no need for a hatch. ;)
