There's a new post by Thomas Dziegielewski where he has mentioned possible (probable?) changes to Seismic Sensors

<Quote>
Seismic Sensor Upgrades
* No Seismic sensor detection while moving
* Weapon Hits to Terrain and Weapon Fire cause Seismic events

Entire thread is here..http://mwomercs.com/...0089-breakdown/

It looks like a good thing to me (although definitely a nerf)...

Thoughts?

Biggest worry is that ECM is already still too OP, and this change will magnify that.

I think it is a bit much of a nerf, especially considering seismic sensor costs 6 million c-bills, which is significantly more than many other available modules. I think the fact that weapons register seismic events is a bit silly - I wonder if machine guns and flamers will trigger it =\

If they plan to make weapons fire trigger it, they should limit that to AC 5-20 and perhaps a volley of similar sized LRM. That way someone who wants to use the trick has to burn ammo that means something.

The splash damage sounds like it will make using whilst brawling almost impossible, and no movement whilst using it will severely effect its use by scouts too. So yep, Ive got sympathy for folk who've spent a lot on it, but im not too surprised they done this, seismics have been an issue for a while.

I do find the weapon fire hits to be an interesting and positive addition to info warfare. But the not working while moving totally destroys any positive feelings i had for it. The only reason i have seismic now on my mediums is so i can chase down light mechs effectively. One of my favorite mechs is my 115kph kintaro with 5 ssrm 2s. Besides when do mechs "not" move in mechwarrior. I have 5 seismic which is 30 million down the drain. Anyway knows if you stand still you get killed. Battle is about constant movement and now i have 30 million cbills of nothing. I never would have spent GXP on it to begin with if i knew this is what it was going to turn into.

This has always been the complaint of players who can't pay attention to their teammates or notice enemy mechs that don't have a big red box around them. ECM has never been OP against anything except streakcats, and if you really thought it was OP then you would be using it and laughing at your opponents, which you aren't.

Seriously, stop repeating this nonsense. It's so over.

I already dont spend any thing mc or cbills because they have tainted everything so much. Little tweaks and nothing else. Still wondering if PGI has funding from a college to see how much customers can take before they quit.

Why would you even want weapon impacts to show up. I mean the range is 250m. Putting your ear to the rail is not a good idea when the train is less then 250m away and inbound.

I'll believe you when I see you and your 12 man do anything in a 12 man that's worthwhile with LRMS.

This is basically making it useless for anyone except stationary Mechs. Snipers.
That's cool. I ain't a sniper.
I got 36 millions down the drain. Expensive lesson learned.

Considering that they are finally adding XP/Cbill bonuses to UAVs and (interestingly) Counter-mode ECMs, I'd say there's a good chance of that happening.

A truly coordinated spotter/LRM team supported by brawlers and a few snipers is quite scary.

Aha! You found out their little game. Brilliant deduction Watson. Now what are you going to do, you little lab rat? Bite the hand that feeds you? :o

One night about a month ago we went 13-0 one night using nothing but LRMs and spotters on the 12 man queue, including victories over a few "tournament-level" teams.

The obligatory doomsday posts after a change/nerf. Always fun to read!

Anyway, yeah it's true you die when you stop moving...when you do it right out in the open. Ever consider oh I dunno...finding some cover first before you stop moving? I hear ridges provide ample cover while allowing you to visually inspect the battlefield in front of you.

Fast mechs aren't affected as they can get to cover easily, stop, wait for blips, and move on after a few seconds. Slow mechs? You aren't breaking any land speed records and any decent shot can nail you without much problem. If the coast is clear, stop moving for a bit to activate your sensor. If not, keep moving until you can find cover so you can activate it.

I like how this makes seismic act more like an easier scouting tool (maybe a range buff if these changes stick) rather than a cheap 360o always-on wallhack. Maybe range increases in increments every 'x' seconds you are stationary.

oh ok. 1 night covers it then. great to hear everything is a ok and LRMS work just fine, nothing needs adjusting.

I'll just assume you did this against teams with a good 4-5 ECM stacked and in cover that didnt rush your lrm boats across the open fields.

Since you guys are the self proclaimed "ultimate pros" of mechwarrior I suppose it is now safe to say that LRMS & ECM are perfectly balanced, which is why they see consistent use as does any other weapon across all gamemodes & types in 12 mans as well.

All thse changes only nerf the new or casual palyer. The guys who are hardcore will not be affected. Actually I am glad this keeps happening and those who invested time grinding for stuff that becomes junk wont grind anymore. I know I have stopped and done with this suckers bet gone wild they call a game. I just read the CW thread and all the guys fawning over stuff months away at best but by experinece even longer. A con is a con. Some get suckered everytime. Some get wise. See ya suckers.

They need to auto refund everyone's seismic modules if they make this change.

They won't and you know it. But you can sell every single one you have right now if you want. Teehee :P
