As a long-time Catapult pilot, it's a matter of honor to keep the two PPCs in the shoulder. It's a matter of honor, it is meant to be, and ballistics on K2 are for the weaks.

Listen to Helm here, and check this out

I just changed my build, and the first few matches were very successful, 600+ damage in each one. It seems getting hit by LB 10-X intimidates a lot of pilots, I've even had dakka jagers retreat (which is silly, because they could easily have cored me):

2xLB 10-X, 4xML, AMS

It's also good for stealing kills. Just don't fire the 4ML together too often, they build up too much heat this way.

Guess myself and 90% of MWO are weak.

I really tried with PPCs, but maybe it's because my ping is never below 140, or maybe I just suck, but I don't do well with PPCs.

The best build is 2AC5/2ER Large Lasers. Runs cool, fits easily with the biggest XL possible. You can upgrade to UAC5 by taking the engine down a little.

Haven't run a K2 in a long time, but I have noticed the dual gauss setup usually does well.

Been usung this build since late summer. XL 300 (useful in so many mechs, pays for itself over and over) 5 tons ammo, 12 DHS. If you can live with the reduced armour, lose a tom of ammo, but i find i run out too often even with 5 tons, so i can live with having an ear shot off every now and then ;)

I've been using this lately. A few basic guidelines:
-422 points of armor does NOT mean you're good at frontline assault. If you're not shooting, stay /behind/ the Atlas.
-422 points of armor does NOT mean you can ignore that Spider harassing you.
-2LLs+2LPLs=high damage to target + high amounts of heat for you. Keep an eye on your heat.
-No AMS=easy target for LRM boats. Again, stay behind the flippin' Atlas.
-Once you've breached your target's armor, those MG's become horrifyingly effective.

That's a decent build, but Catapults really do benefit tremendously from XL engines. It's very rare to lose a side torso, so you can run XLs without endangering yourself. Taking off the Ferro-Fibrous and some leg armour, you can nicely fit an XL300 and a total of 18 DHS, which should greatly enhance your effectiveness.

Fully agreed. I've actually been saving up for one, but seeing as XLs are so expensive...

Yeah, they're about the price of a whole new Mech, but they're definitely worth having. Especially the XL300, that just goes with everything, and if you have one, you can swap it out between Mechs if you want to.

I've been runing this one for some time now. It's really effective in long to medium combat ranges, but also gives you some close range protection with LL + MG's. If you don't find MG's usefull, you can swap them out for one extra DHS.

I run the K2 almost exclusively, originally with dual ER PPCs and a guass. Runs super hot but 35 pinpoint damage every 4 seconds makes people turn and run. My new favorite is dual LBX10s and 4ML, its solid for 3+ kills a game and melts face. Since you have to brawl to be effective, I moved all but 5 armor from the rear to the front, and have had great survivabilty as long as I stay situationally aware and dont expose my rear torso.

I run full stock loadout with just endosteel and double heatsinks. Usually rock 3-500 a match and a couple kills. I've tried various ballistic loadouts but I could never settle on one I liked.

This build might sound crazy but I swear it's very effective. I've had a lot of fun with it and it's an excellent brawler.

AC20
Machine Gun
2 Med. Lasers
2 Med. Pulse Lasers
AMS

Dbl. Heat Sinks
Case on MG ammo and AMS ammo
4 Tons AC ammo in legs
Standard 260 engine

400 Standard armor
Endo-steel
2 extra heatsinks outside of engine

Goes 64.8 pre-tweak with 1.23 heat efficiency.

Mine is pretty standard and boring.

XL300
2xPPC
2xLL
19 double heatsinks

I have never even tried any balistics on it. I only run two mechs with balistics right now but, I wouldn't mind trying a gaus rifle on it. As it is now it is easy to play and holds it's own but, it isn't super effective when you compare it to something loaded up with a/c's. I tried two ER PPC's on it and the heat was just way to much. I think replacing the two LL with two ERLL would be a smarter option if you wanted some more range.

Gaussapult is actually the classic MWO K2 build, having been the first "big twin ballistic" available in the game. Still works, of course...though the Jagermech with it's arm mounts is considered the superior version.

yeah, mine is a guasscat as well. Advanced zoom is a must. It is NOT a close up fighter though. Two guass and an XL. Once somebody scratches your nose you usually go up.
However as long as you hang back and mind your placement you can have several kills by then. Instead of two med laser like an earlier build I use four small lasers. That way there is something in the arms that can take some damage at least.

i'd recommend asking yourself, what your favourite weapon is
when you can answer that question, build up from there, which leads to build that suit your playstyle best

miy favourite is the MG, unfortunately...
