Greetings all - am fairly new to the game, and still getting my bearings. I'm reasonably competent in Assault builds, but I suspect that goes for most of you/us. I'm pretty awful in the lighter, faster builds. I've learned, though, that my score or damage total does not equate to "fun". In my book I know I've had fun when I end a game and say to myself - that was pretty cool, irrespective of where I was placed on the scoreboard. I *think* I generally have more fun when I get a bit of speed going in my mech and when I get up close and personal with the enemy team, irrespective of outcome. Sitting at the back of the map and simply throwing LRMs at the enemy team doesn't do it for me, though it's great for points. Sooo... just wondering, which mechs/builds do you have must "fun" with?

Honestly, I have the most fun in those aforementioned ankle-biters, but for Assault mechs, the Highlander is a pretty great mech. Takes a little playing around with, and especially if you're new, you have to find something that works with your playing style. Someone will almost certainly toss a couple builds at you that they did "3,000 damage and killed 14 people in one match in," but then you'll run it and score 35 points before being jammed into the ground.

So play around.

The thing about assaults is that you're carrying around so much firepower and armor that you EXPECT to stick around in a fight. You EXPECT to live through the match, so it's kind of disappointing when you're blown away.

In a Locust? You never have that illusion. Every shot you survive is "HAHAHAHAHAA HOW DID I SURVIVE THAT??" and then you run like crazy.

Battlemasters. When they drop for c-bills? Grab any of them: fun mechs. Run hot, but fast and fun.

Quoted for truth.

For the record, all of my builds are built as much for the fun factor as for their effectiveness.
Because, what is the point of playing a game, if you are not having fun? :)

My favourite build is the KTO-18, 2 medium lasers and 4 LRM5's with artemis, and no i don't just sit back and lob missiles for points, I will open fire at max range, and continue engaging down to the 200-300 meter mark where it is at its most effective. Not all of us missile centric players are the sit behind everyone and lob missiles.

However, there are plenty of builds which can be fun to play in, the JM6-DD with a couple of PPCs and 6 machine guns, its cheesy but hell its great fun to run around in and have a good laugh.

I think my most fun assaults would be the Highlander, Victor and now the BattleMaster. Jump jets on an assault are very nice to have, and the BM (not yet released) actually works well with an XL engine!

Since you like brawling and little speed, you might want a heavy mech like the Dragon or the Quickdraw - both a lot of fun and a good compromise between firepower and speed.

For mediums, I would try the Centurion, Kintaro & Blackjack - these are probably my overall favorites.

I also enjoy getting "up close and personal" (aka brawling). And any of these mechs can certainly get the job done. All can support a nice weapons platform without sacrificing too much maneuverability & speed.

For me the most fun mechs are Spiders, if you are in good match.
Sometimes I forget blink my eyes, there is no time for that :) just red, dry eyes after

Dual AC20s or Quad AC2 is always fun.

I used to really like 4 PPC Stalkers before their nerfs.

Most fun eh...For me at the present time would have to be my ShadowHawk 2d2 (2LL/4SSRM2's) or my GOGOmmando (3SSRM2's/ECM). Not mechs that I would find myself in for 12 mans with but hey since when did anyone play 12 mans for fun. :)

I really have a lot of fun using my 3x ML 2x AC10 K2. I get to snipe, move, brawl, everything. It's not my best Mech, but I love when I pick off a shoulder while going 80 KPH :)

Also, the Ziggy Pig (3x ML 3x UAC5) Ilya Muromets is just hilarious fun. I often do 300+ damage in a bad match, but only lived for 30 seconds of combat. It just SPITS out damage. My record of components destroyed in a match was my Ziggy with 11 - and I only had 2 kills, haha.

I love a wide variety but just for fun, my "stock" 4ML/2streak X-5 and my "mini-Victor" SHD-2D2 (AC10, 2ML, 2SRM4) jump brawler are probably my "most fun" for me right now.

Awesome-8R 2LL, 4SRM6. It has a rhythym to the weapons when chain firing everything.
Awesome-8V 3LL, 1LRM15 (before Ghost Heat). I could fire everything at any target between 180m - 900m.
Hunchback-4H LBX, 4-5ML
Any Locust where I survive a match. :)

My nine medium laser Hunchback 4P is the most fun I've ever had in this game.

SPL Jenners are "fun" builds. When you can get in close, they're easy to tear parts off of mechs. If you can't get in close... well...

I've enjoyed your recent burst of forum activity, Garth. I'm still fairly new (July), and seeing a staff member hobnobbing is most welcome. (The fact that you share my love of Cicadas helps, too...)

Misery with AC/20 2xLL 3xML. It's so forgiving, just plain brawling fun with good heat management. Plus its great for earning C-bills.

Currently the most fun mech in my bays is my 6MPL Jester.

JESTER

With that XL350 and JJ its fast and manouverable and having the MPL forces me to go short range and do some serious "dancing" to be able to stay alive in a brawl. I have had times where I charged right over the heads of the enemy assault lance and caused so much confusion that they crumbled to the approaching attack. Also there was this one time when my spidey senses tingled and I jumped up into a nook on a building just in time to avoid a lance of lights as they ran by. I then stalked them to the theta cap on Crimson Straits and took out a stationary locust with a single alpha to the rear CT. Then i ran away cackling :D
