Honestly, the Awesome was never really top comp material given the way MWO currently works but people who say that it is useless really have an unimaginative approach to play. Play-2-Win ideas are not necessarily limited to abusing overpowered mechanics favoured by the metagame of the month. Learning to make the best of a more difficult situation is also very important and piloting less effective mechs while developing focused and efficient loadouts is an important part of improving your skills as a pilot.

The Awesome is an excellent mech for this. Yes it's outpreformed in its supposed firesupport role by alot of mechs including some which are lighter than itself. Part of this is because of how energy weapons are balanced, part of it is because of how energy weapons are balanced when compared to ballistics and part of it is because of the mechs hitboxes and large profile. That doesn't mean a clever pilot can't figure out how to turn 3 PPC's backed by 19-22 DHS into a pretty nasty damage dealer.

I think everyone posting in this thread doesn't already know this, since we're all dedicated enough Awesome pilots that we're trying to make the 9M work instead of just buying Victors. I don't think anyone is saying that you can't do well in an Awesome.

But no matter that, I'm not going to stop posting balance threads until you see people actually having to make a choice between an AWS and a VTR if they're playing to win. There are plenty of ways to challenge yourself without arbitrarily having what should be one of the best energy platforms in the game riddled with problems.

My personal wishlist for Awesome fixes:

*Fix PPC's: 1800 m/s projectile speed and a 620 optimal aswell as ballistic weapon rules for maxrange (3x instead of 2x)

*Improve torso mobility, add 20 degree twist and 10 degree pitch

*If mech specific quirks gets added, Awesomes could use a boost to SHS efficiency to better support it's energy loadouts. Think 1.3 cap/dissapation for SHS(engine and non engine). That would favour builds without endo steel for a change to make use of the crit slots. DHS would still be great for builds with massive engines and Endo Steel, but variants like the 8Q might better favour a moderate sized XL engine as a result.

Also, remove all acceleration/deceleration quirks for Pretty Baby.

EDIT: Also move the arm missile hardpoints (or just one of them) to RT. PB in its current state is god awful.

Here's some more warmth from your friendly neighborhood PPCs for you against the cold.

No, it really isn't. The AWS is only playable if you have good teammates who protect you and do the heavy lifting.

i would laugh about that, if it wasn't so sad...
dude, get used to the awesome and i promisse, it will work really good!
guess what, i bought myself a HGN733C some days ago, for 12-man-competetive-matches, dropped maybe 30-40 times with it, and i feel the mech is scrap (well, not scrap, but not good). BUT the mech is scrap for ME. that doesn't mean it's scrap for everyone.
i jumped into my AWS-9M again yesterday just for fun, and my performance (kills, damage, matchscore, everything) rocketed upwards like crazy.

But i see people performing absolutely incredible with the HGN733C, so maybe it's me who can not play with it. Same goes for you and the awesome. So please stop the scraptalk about "Awesome is not playable blablabla"... i'm so effing sick of it...

i used to run the 3 erppc or 3 ppc combo on the 9m with both 3mlas or 3ssrms and while still viable (first 2 matches out of the gate after PPC nerfs i got multiple kills 550 dmg) its just meh now. your too limited by heat to really lay suppressive fire down when the enemy is pushing on you and its going poorly. a "meta" build will fire just as many PPC shots as you will but also fire a continuous rain of AC5 bullets in addition. you also require to be on the winning team in a longer drawn out match to get good numbers.

ive swapped to ERLLAS on the right side (RA + RT) for poking at enemies in the beginning of the match and med pulse + ssrm combo for brawling. results have been more consistent and higher top damage numbers.

YMMV of course but thats just what ive observed.

Hey Viper,

I'd really like to watch your video, but you know the 4 letters of utter evil? GEMA! Your video is no longer available in Germany.

Could you do it again without music?

Heyho,

yeah i know, stupid GEMA-BS.... did you try downloading it? Sure, i could redo it without music, but the music in this video makes at least the half of its "awesomeness" =/
Another way is, you could try using a proxy-server (or if downloading also doesn't work because of GEMA, try downloading using a proxy, because watching videos in full HD behind a proxy is horrible =/

Another way would be that i send it directly to you, through teamviewer file-transfer or something else. Just PM me if you want to.

Greetings

Man, after watching some of these videos, now I wanna try and record them for uploading too.
Gotta figure out how to do that though - which software is preferred for recording?

I use Msi Afterburner. Totally free and great quality, though it records in .avi files so like 5 mins of 720P recording takes 2 gigabytes.

Thanks man, i appreciate this =)
to be honest, the timing with the "TNT" and the PPC blasts was coincidence, i realised that when i first saw the finished video... but yeah, i also thought "lol dude, thats AWESOME" ;)
