The Slow Raven Plague.

I've had a few different games were they actually park in front of me in my Orion and fire some kind of cute auto cannon at me. I press two buttons on my mouse, watch them explode in a big ball of fire, chuckle, and go about my business.
I've only had Jenners for lights but, I always ran the fastest engine I could and that did pretty well keeping me alive. I don't understand the concept of having a light slower than mediums or even some heavies.

I'm not complaining at all, what sense would it make for me to complain about people running slow lights? Personally I'm all for it because it makes super easy kills no matter what mech you are in. I'm merely looking for insight on what would possibly motivate them to do such a thing and I only see it with ravens.
Dropping 7 kills/almost 900 damage with a huge XL seems durable enough for me especially in a mech that wasn't even elited yet and I average 370 in a game. If I want more durable I'll just get an assault. Speed is extra durability btw. I assumed light pilots like those in Ravens would know that but, I guess not.

The usual solution was to equip more gun on one's Raven than is typically seen on any two light 'Mechs and play it as a tiny gunboat. AC/20 4X, dual PPC 2X, most anything that can dish out a surprising amount of damage, and then they attempt to prey on the inattentive. It works less often than they'd hope but more often than you'd think.
Now, of course, they can hit a 275 cap, at which point with Tweak they get up to 140 klicks. Which is a perfectly reasonable speed for a light and permits the poor things to not be quite so completely outclassed by Jenners. They still generally are, but hey. What can you do? At least now there's some hope for the durned things.

Right now I've built a striker raven which roles with mediums on the team to form a striker lance. 1 AC/2 w/ 3t ammo and a LL with standard engine. Its functional, not really fun to play I prefer fast lights that get in and stick rather then long range game play. But it works, move into position with the strike lance and pick off arms/legs etc.
I'm considering building a 2X with 4 medium pulse lasers to serve as a light fighter to move with the main group of heavies/assaults but not sure how that will work out as an oxide is much better for that.
Hard to give up a quality light mech like the Deaths Knell that pulls 700+/- dmg on solo PUG play.

xl275, 1 large, 3 medium. My 2x was a solid 500-800 dmg producer by the time I'd finished eliting it. Unfortuneately as it did nothing better than the 3L it got binned as soon as the 3L's module slot unlocked. No need for slow cheese to be effective in the lesser ravens

What was your previous account? Clearly you have been here longer then "Member Since 22 Dec 2013".
In all your post's you have a very experienced point of view on this game. Is this your PUG farming account?

The 4X can fit 5 JJs. And it's a pretty good mech if you know how to use it. I've pulled off plenty of 900+ dmg rounds, even a 1200+ dmg round once.

You are calling the Raven 2X an 4X useless ?
LOL... Up to the pilot really.. Know your match up and get those you are weak against killed though baiting or generally avoid them...
Then kite/burn those silly slow assault mechs to death.. Muahahahah !

Its been a process really. Some matches are better than others. But the capping speed, ecm to shield our heavies, and long range poke make up for it.

My Ravens 2x and 4x move slow but pack heavy punches of 20+ instant damage. My 4x is made as an unorthodox brawler and my 2x as a ranged sharp shooter. Both are deadly in their elements, but are easily outdone by enemy lights in the right conditions.
Though, before HSR, spiders were just prey.
The 4x is even deadlier in cities, but does good in high heat maps too.
And the 2x

But anyways, there are some mechs in this game that will just suck. cough (locust)
Or drive a pilot up a wall no matter what variant or build they use. Thunderbolt.
TL;DR
MWO will have lame duck mechs. Nothing we can do about it. or "What you talking about Willis!" I can rock that [scrap] like no one's business!
