Submitted for your perusal, about to buy my first "owned" warbeast & need to know if this looks solid enough?

Open to any / all improvements, I have 15 million in my pocket just burning a hole! :)

Thanks folks.

More or less yeah. No complaints

Good job!

If you are interested, instead of an XL300, buy an XL295 and add another jump jet.

If you don't use those heat Sink slots on the 300, the 295 is half a ton lighter and you only lose 1-2 kph, which is absolutely negligible.

That said, most people will recommend the XL 300 over the XL 295 for general use. Space becomes a factor before that half ton in most heavier mechs, and that extra heat sink slot can save you 3 slots, often allowing you to throw in another Dual Heat Sink. I went XL 295 first, and I don't think it hurt me. It's slightly better in jenners (debatable I guess), the Raven 3L needs it, and it's slightly worse in catapults.

I tend to think you could scrape another half-ton of armor from the legs for the third jump jet, keeping the engine rating …

the first jump jet adds most of the lift, additional jump jets only boost the first by a fraction. They're almost pointless IMO.

It's a good build, but I honestly prefer the triple AC2 build. I run it with a medium laser and (blasphemy! ) an XL 295.

Well you picked a good first 'mech. It's versatile and can perform multiple roles so you'll not be lacking variety. My personal favourite is 2PPC/1AC5 but there are plenty of good builds for this 'mech. You're particular build looks OK although personally I would take an XL280 and swap the ERLL for an ERPPC.

Looks good. Would use a PPC instead of the ER Large Laser though. PPC's and AC5's have much better synergy together.

Is this PPC build what you guys are suggesting? I really like this, hate that armor missing though, lol!

Lowering armor in places that don't matter is critical to building an efficient mech. If you never get legged, lowering a bit of leg armor is free tonnage that can be used on heat sinks, weapons, or ammo.

I'm thinking I'll go chase Spiders and little birds around with this SHawk:

Also, BJ-1X requires it for max speed, and works well as a light hunter energy speed boat.

Get a Cicada 3M/Awesome 9M if you want to master those along with Shadow Hawk.

That's my 2H right there more or less. Great build.

You can afford it now, but if you're new-ish, your c-bills are going to tighter real soon. I strongly advise against straight buying an XL320. The XL325 will serve you better generally and there are a couple mechs (CDA-3M notably) that will give you one later, as noted above.

I use a similar build - but when I'm chasing down lights - I want to go as fast as possible. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...cc088e1a2668467

Most don't feel the need to max their speed though. You could save 1.5 tons by dropping to a 350.

The main problem with yours is the lack of BAP. To use streaks you have to pay the BAP tax - otherwise those streaks are useless against the first light with ECM.

Also - you have an unnecessary amount of heatsinks. Anything over 30% is playable - 36% is very solid - 46% is almost silly. And if you ever do start having heat issues - just stop firing the ERPPC.

That's good, like a mini Victor Dragon Slayer.

If you are economical with your shots, you can switch PPC to ERPPC, but since you have only 10 DHS, you have to be really careful with your heat.

Good stuff.

I would bring the legs down to 40 and put the extra on the shield arm. I find that 40 leg armor has always been plenty and as long as you shield well having a bit more armor in the empty arm can be useful.

After numerous matches, it comes painfully to my attention that it isn't so much speed or range I need to have fun and not be mediocre (or worse)...

...it's more torso blasting METAL!

Everyone says from pugs to group min/maxers, that a "Phract 3D ( I happen to think it's anything BUT ugly! :P ) needs to use it's unique ability to jump as a pop-sniper....but I want to build this instead.

Kinda like a faster mini-Misery, as the Orion tries to be an Atlas, or the Victor, a 'lil Highlander, from what I've been seeing.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8b2c3bc5ea3f3ff

Any reason at all to not pug with this, since I can finally afford it along with a basic color or two? Any tweaks I'm missing?

Thanks again, the Hawk may be my 2nd chassis, although that Griffon 3M does things for me from the builds & vids I've seen.

@Old Witch:

That's a solid -3D build. It's the one that proves that almost anything the -1X can do, the -3D can do with JJ. And JJ always good. That said, a couple things to consider: 1) you really should think about leveling three variants of the same chassis. Doubled basics matter a lot and 2) MC colors. Yes, it's real money, but if you want custom paint, the basic colors are meh and cost a pile of c-bills that are going to get scarcer.

Also, tell Vlad that Kreoss and I say hi.

Orsus is not amused.
