The 1M is a fantastic mech until you run out of ammo.

I have a great time with the 1M with SRM2 + SRM4 + 3 tons ammo + 2 SL + 170XL.

i've also been putzing around in the 1V with a LPL.

Went on after patching and had some of the best Locust games in a long while.

Missed the one with the highest Locust damage ever but here is #2.

And #3.

I have not taken my Locusts into non-Conquest in a while.

Good job. What loadout are using on the 1E?

hi, i'm also a light mech specialist

I was playing a day ago and thought about the locust for a sec, i had an extra mech bay and plenty of cash so i bought the locust 1V. I came up with a really fun build. Hope you like it.

It has

4 machine guns (2 in each arm)
1 med laser (in ct)
1 ams (in rt)
2 tons of mg ammo (1 ton in each arm)
1/2 ton of ams ammo (in rt)
3 std heat sinks ( 1 in each leg and 1 in head)

upgrades:
endo steel
ferro fibrous

max armor
XL engine 190
total cost: 5,014,325

enjoy and have fun,

Fred Dref ;)

True. But nothing is more fun than yelling "trolololololo" through the chat as you run around, the last one left, as your side creeps towards the inevitable cap win in Conquest. I got called some names for that. ;)

I've won matches like that when my team was behind on points until I capped a few more, but that doesn't really happen anymore nowadays. It's still possible to occasionally be the sole cause of your team winning the match, and when it happens it's priceless. Making it happen while you're running a Locust just makes it that much better.

That's like...the basic 1V build pretty much, and you liked your own post. Heh. I probably wouldn't have shelled out for FF armor though, personally. It doesn't really save you enough to be worth the c-bills imo.

FF might not be worth it. However, for that build I would recommend 3 tons of MG ammo. You will need three if you like to get really close to your enemies a lot. If not then you're good to go. I would recommend trying out the 3M after that. (5MLs or SPLs can be a really nice punch into an enemy's back.)

The 5 SPL 3M is my baby. Most people don't put sufficient armor in their back to survive one alpha, let alone two, which are fairly easy to get off with the fast cycle time of those lasers.

If they're busy and not paying attention, that's 2, or possibly even 3 alphas into their back.

its also not really effective anymore unless you get those folks alone and not paying attention. I stopped boating the SL/SPL as of late. just too limiting and the PUG world has changed a lot or maybe in my ELO bracket, people got smart.

Well that and my pings + HSR make laser hits VERY problematic.

My 1E i keep swapping between 4ML + 2SL or just 4ML.

if they'd give the weapon modules for SL and SPL like a +50m I'd probably go back.

I miss the days of the 8 SL firestarter also....just doesn't work anymore. I blame the clan mechs and their turn on a dime and swipe you are a million meters away.

yeah i noticed SL/SPLs are just a bit too short range for a Locust. i tried it for a while with the 3M but i'd get a couple shots in maybe then some other light with ML/MPLs would pick me apart at range. and i never seemed to be able to leg the lights either with the SPLs while ML/MPL for some reason seemed easier even though i could use less of them.

now i think i just have 3ML- alpha all day and hide behind my dual AMS with a couple tons of ammo. may have tossed a TAG in i don;t remember now. i need to play them again once i finish leveling up my cents.

The problem is the short beam duration, coupled with how fast the legs move. MLs are better for legging lights a lot of the time. Especially in circling actions. Since they have longer beam duration, and thus will be able to deal more over-all damage.

There's some truth to that, I do have trouble with other lights, depending on their build. Still, I feel like ton-for-ton I like the SPLs better. I can alpha with impunity, and I almost never have range problems due to how fast you go in a Locust. The only time range is even an issue is when there isn't any cover between your death ball and the enemy's, and even then you're fast enough to just go another way to get there.

Still you get better results with MLs though. you can get so much more done without that 100m all the time risk involved.

now the SL/SPL works best if you've got other mechs around who can be the bait while you stay at the CT and keep shooting although only works if you find those lone mechs.

Yeah. Although to be honest, the SL/SPL builds would be even better if their heat is brought back to what it should be (1 heat for SL, and 2 for SPL)

I take more range before heat changes though.

I almost never overheat anyway though. Maybe if I'm fighting more than one opponent on Terra Therma when I'm in a suicidal mood or something.
