One does not simply maintain KDR > 1.0 in a locust

/Boromir.gif

My KDR went all Boromir when the locusts came, then when the 1E came and I got my hands on 6 flamers my KDR went all Sean Bean...

Here's one for the 1E;

Six Small Pulse Lasers.

No, really.

Max that engine, cram those in there, and stick with friends. You're the knifefighter, and you're hitting for 20+ points in a burst, it's like having an AC20 with better fire rate. You're defense for the heavy hitters, or a killer for anyone dumb enough to get stuck alone. You have the speed and maneuverability to pull it off.

If you think you need more range, go two ML and four SPL.

Try it.

it's the build i've been enjoying a lot. The locust is fast enough to get to knife-fighting range in a flash, and dart out just as quickly.

Glad you enjoyed it.

On a separate note, I disagree with you sig. There are NO problems that cannot be solved with the proper application of violence. :D

Touche!

&

Going to have to try that spl or ml/spl build... sounds rather challenging and fun.

I actually use a 5SPL 3M build as my primary favored Locust. I've even been considering selling the machine gun locust 1V to make room for additional Atlas experiments, but that's probably far in the future, after I have some modules to my name. Love my 3M though. You can swing by, zap someone in the back, especially the ST, and leave before they can even turn to face you much of the time. The reason I've taken to preferring the ST is that people tend to use even less armor there than the CT, and a surprising amount of people run XLs in stupidly heavy mechs these days for some reason. Even if that weren't the case, pulling the enemy's teeth and leaving them with a blind side is nothing to sneer at. 17 point alpha is almost as good as an AC20, generates less heat, and fires again faster, though the down side is that it can spread damage against a fast enemy, and it goes even less far. Though range limitations are almost a negligible impediment given the Locust's speed.

Try 3 MPL + 2 SL in the 3M.

I'm in such a good mood. I managed to solo a Timber Wolf in my 3M today. While a K2 Catapult and some other medium (a Griffon, I think?) helplessly missed me or had to hole their fire so as not to hit their buddy. Dude was fresh, just chillin' on a hill shooting LRMs at my team, and I rolled up on him and shot him in the back. We did the circle dance for a while, and when his friends jumped in, I had to focus on evading damage a bit more. Wound up doing something very similar to an old-style FPS charge-spin-charge deal. Managed to back-core him, which I totally attribute to the short burn and recycle times on my SPLs. Timber Wolves make surprisingly good meat-shields. :D When he died I got my face shot off by an Adder flamer that had joined the fray. Basically while I kept almost an entire lance busy, all but two of the rest of my team had somehow managed to die. Go figure.

That is a shame. That run sounds awesome. I have never managed to take on a T-wolf for that long in my Locust. Pretty sad that your team lost an 12v8.

I went all out today and added the SL weapon module to my 1E...

this thing has more modules than almost all my other mechs combined.

now it has ML, SL, seismic, radar derp, UAV, and artillery

I tried out the Knife Figthing 1E.

Holy crap that thing's hilarious.

I've casually walked up and blwn the legs off a Shadowhawk.
I've killed stalkers and atlai, and helped kill numerous other things. :)
Going to invest in double heatsinks at some point.

They are worth it.

40.80 damage every 3.25 seconds from 2 alphas. Nothing to sneeze at. After all, even if you get one alpha, if you get it in the right spot, that's an AC 20 shot. Delivered at 170 Kph.

Seconded. The extra cap and dissipation make it so easy to just carve parts off of mechs like flesh off a delicious turkey.

Oh I bet.
Just the whole regular-c-bill-sales means my grind has gone to those.

But at some point~

Reading through this thread had inspired me to buy my own trio of Locust mechs and I can safely say that after about a week of using them they are the most enjoyable mechs in the game. To me at least that is.

Thank you for the wonderful guides and helpful hints in this thread, it gave such a great boost the playing the Locust. Probably changed it from a nasty grind at the start to a fun ride the whole time.

Here should be an image of my latest and best game in a Locust so far, a humble mech toting 6 small pulse lasers, an XL-190 engine and double heat sinks.
