As a fairly new player, one of my problems with heat management in combat is placement of the heat gauge. It's in a horrible place. A simple feature to make this easier would be to add a small heat gauge in between the range designation and the 4,5,6 weapons group cool down indicators near the cross-hairs.

You should be flicking your eyes down to the mini-map on a regular basis to gain more situational awareness anyway, so the heat gauge is in a good spot. Your jump jet fuel gauge and speedometer are also in the same area.
