Why Is The Most Useless Spider The Most Expensive?

Seriously. the 5D sports 3 energy hard points, two center torso and one in arm Plus ECM and AMS harpoints... I fit a ER PPC in the arm, 2 sm pulse lasers CT, and ECM - cost - 2.533 M. - - - the 5k sports 4 ballistic in arms, 1 energy CT, and AMS for only 2.452M.... I fit a AC2 and a med laz - - - - and then we have the 5V with only 2 energy center torso (only enough slots for 1 large laser or 2 mids), and AMS for a whopping 2.598 M - - - the MC costs follow suit as well 5D = 1,015 / 5k = 985 / 5V = 1,040

WTF gives? hey since they have to buy it in order to unlock their tree, lets make it cost them the most.... doesn't make any sense. - yes the 5V comes with an extra module slot, but there is no module that is worth more then 4 ballistic hard points, or an energy with more then 2 slots. - craptastic mech!

love my 5D, and 5K however.

because price has no correlation to how good the mech is

You bought spiders with MC? I feel sorry for your wallet. Also the 5V is everyone's looking to elite the spider's "Elite tax". Its a terrible piece of garbage that you have to work with if you want speed tweak on the broken *** hitbox. Just slap a LPL in it and tough it out :V

The 5V isn't a very impressive 'mech - I think if they revamped jump jets a bit it would help, but that's another thread. The reason it costs more, however, is partly because of its starting equipment and upgrades. The 5V chassis starts with a flamer instead of a medium laser - and that flamer only costs 15K c-bills instead of 40K. It's not the potential of the 'mech you're paying for; it's just what the components cost - and the MC cost is tied to the c-bill pricing. =)

PS: Don't listen to the haters - here or elsewhere. The 5V isn't as good as other chassis, but slap in a large pulse or an ER laser and you'll do fine until you get Master unlocked.

Yeah, the 5V is not bad at all. I run mine with an XL270, 2 MPLs, and 11 JJs. It's as good as the other Spiders in my experience. My plan was to sell it after getting the Basics, but it changed my mind. I like brawling and the 5V is good at it.

Maybe its because I elited spiders back when the engine cap on all of them was 255, but the ECM spider can just load those pulse lasers on its arms and have a much better time brawling* with arm lock off.

Don't knock the 5V. 12 jumpjets. It can jump higher and further than any other mech in the entire game. Used to be you could launch yourself 90% across Forest Colony with it. With the engine cap upgrade it also moves FAST. Most maneuverable mech all-around. The fact that it carries less potential firepower than any other mech and that firepower is torso-locked means that it's less favored but it definitely has its unique place.

Well, once they fix jumpjets to actually give more than just more fuel again, that combined with the bigger engine cap will give the 5V a niche. A good niche? Not really. But a niche nonetheless.

Sure, until you lose that arm. The 5V's arms are expendable.

But please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying the 5V is better than the 5D. I'm just saying it isn't useless.

12 jumpjets, 151KPH BEFORE speed tweak. 2 ML.

it jumps so far, so fast, you can face rush people, jump over their head and they cant find you when they turn to try to shoot you, because you flew over 400M away at 150KPH and 100M off the ground. This mech is the HATE MAGNET.

team not doing so well? "Watch this". Run. Jump, pewpew some enemy mechs in the back and face. HATE. They all HATE you so much, they cant stand it. They have to try to get you, because you are that ******* flying spider that wont leave them alone with your damn swoosh swoosh ML fire on their face. They have to kill you, no matter what. they will shoot LRM40 salvos at you, AC20's from 600M, whatever it takes, because you are that ******* ******** flying spider, and they hate you. And while they hate you, your team can advance into their midst and blow them apart. sometimes they wont even notice, and will blame you for it because: ******* spiders.

I average 150 dmg a game and 10 assists, have had games with more dmg by far(remember 2 ML) and some where the hate magnet drew too much aggro. Only thing that get me is silly streaktaros, and a pew pew to them is usually enough to make them chase me into range of my team because they smell fresh spider.

The thing really is a blast to play even if you arent a kill machine. Not everything has to be about KDR. Sometimes jumping so high enemy mechs lose their missile lock before you come down is fun too.

Sorry to the detractors, but I LOVE my 5V.

I'll echo everyone else. Possibly my fav. mech in the game.

151km/h, all the jump jets you could ever want and a couple ML or MPL. Who can argue with that?

I've saved my team numerous times with it. Mastered it (and the other Spiders).

I might deviate occasionally but I'll always come back to my Spiders. Better K/D and W/L in it than any other mech I own.

Just because it doesn't quite fit your play style or "the meta" doesn't mean it isn't great fun.

Me and a 3S locust just finished off 2 mediums and 2 assaults alone to win on skirmish for our team. They aren't bad. They're gold

And to answer OPs question the 5v is the definitive star league era version. D is a Dav refit (either from salvage or cache) and K is the built by marik for Kurita replica (though its likely some V's are also current era replicas) and yeah, an honest to god barn find chunk of lostech is gonna command a premium over a rebuild or a copy

and to answer the further question, 2 mpl, tweaked 285 and 10 JJs
