For the 8T you might also consider a missile boat:

AWS-8T 2xERLL 2xLRM15 TAG STD270

I hate to say it, but given how PGI has designed the game with armor equality, Awesomes did get the short end of far too many bad design decisions.

Of course, Victors would sink quite a bit if max armor per variant was based on each variant's stock armor. Victors starting with significantly inferior armor to Awesomes while Awesomes have more armor stock than many 85 and 90 ton competitors, the Awesomes would have been much better off than they are. (Say, stock + 100 = new max for said variant of any given chassis).

Hopefully the mech imbalance in the game will be addressed one day soon.. like weapon imbalance!

It would be amazing if we could jump into any mech and feel that it is a solid choice... Variety is the spice of life and I hope for the day we see varieties of all mechs sporting all types of weapons waging battle.. that'll be a sight to behold.

Speaking of mech imbalance, I placed my own thread about it a while ago about my suggested fixes on mechs. http://mwomercs.com/...65#entry3046965

I'll read into these in the morning. What I've read so far, some I agree with, some I don't (as certain other ideas would more than make up for the difference; example the armor idea would give the slower 2X and 4X quite a huge advantage over the 3-L even if they went their original speeds with the 245 engine limit). But I'll definitely give plenty of feedback there come morning or afternoon.

Awesomes are sadly, not awesome. SRMs are also not reliable right now.

You have to think about how you want to play a mech when designing a build. Dual PPC builds are long range, high alpha, low DPS. Is that how you want to play?

I would say Awesomes are only viable as semi Missile boats, doing indirect fire early game to avoid taking too much damage to the barn door body. Then go in and mop up later.

If I HAD to run a 8T, I would do something like this. But I wouldn't run an Awesome

Awesome are tough mech to pilot well and usually fall into a support role instead spear heading a rush like Atlas and Stalker.

I run a similar build for awhile on the 8T before falling in love with my 8Q.
AWS-8T

Removed 1 PPC and shift all LL to one arm for better peek-shot.
Upgrade to Double Heat Sink and packing 18 of 'em.
Upgrade engine to STD 300 for more speed and twist.
Added AMS with 1t ammo for protection against LRM and SSRM.
Added an extra ton of ammo for SRM, giving you a total of 25 shots of SRM6+6.

Use the PPC and LL to poke at enemy at range
When possible, use cover to hide half of your mech and use only your exposed weapon
If an enemy come within close range, ditch the PPC and use only LL and SRM
LL for fast targets, SRM for big slow heavy and assault

Awesome are Bollywood Mechs
You need to peek and twist alot.

Ok, took some of your advice and played around for a little while. How is this?

Again, no DHS or anything in there, trying to stay cost effective for now.

Hi

Haven't read the whole thread yet, but DHS are the first thing you should buy on *any* mech. Otherwise everyone else you come across will be automatically superior in their ability to dish out damage.

I suppose I just wanted the missiles in that case. The second build you posted, could it be done better by another mech?

For that mech, i think i would drop from SRM's, to dual streaks, with 1 ton of ammo in the head, Just in case a light get's close.. add a BAP, and an extra heat sink.. (i think there is enough tonnage for that)

I hate to say it, but DHS are a must have for most mechs, especially heavier mechs with more firepower. I'm a cheap SOB - I hate spending those C-bills - but I've only found a few mechs that can get away with SHS. None of them are heavier than 55 tons.

My Shadow Hawk-2D2 runs with SHS: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0fc6ad9eb6eb9cb
I've also done it with one of my Wolverine builds, and my Locusts. But aside from that, DHS is just about a must, especially if you plan on running energy weapons.

(I know, Koniving has his famous SHS Atlas build, but the money you save in SHS you spend in a big XL engine)

Edit: Another thing to consider, is that 8 million you're looking at for the Awesome - if you spend that on a medium or heavy mech, you'll have the money left over for upgrades like DHS.

So what you're saying is that the Awesome is this in 'mech form:

Somehow, that description of them works.

As someone who owns 4 Awesomes and pilots them regularly I have to say the 8T is the worst variant of the chassis. The fact that most of the weapons are in the low slung arms will cause you no end of problems. Check out the 8Q or 8V for hardpoints that place your PPCs and LLs higher up.

Bit too much ammo for my liking. I run my C4 Catapult with 2 LRM15+A and it does fine with 6 tons of ammo. You can use the extra tonnage on putting some armour back on to the legs and a larger engine or extra heat sinks. Also, you might as well get that TAG system in to the arms. Make it easier to use.

Like a bad movie from 80s Bollywood with occasional epic moment.
