Just a creative solution...

Never mind that you can have the crosshairs right on a Spider, SEE your laser hit it, and have the hit not register.
I think it's pretty obvious the developers like to play light mechs. Regardless of the efforts they claim to have made, they haven't put a dent in server lag, hit registration is worse than ever, and the Spider still has sketchy hitboxes. Many light mechs benefit from server lag, but the Spider is the worst. On the occasion that an AC/20 hit registers, it can one-shot the Spider, and people complain bitterly about that. Even though they've dodged dozens of shots before that one hit.
When a twitchy adolescent from the Call of Duty crowd wants to play MechWarrior, what mechs does he use? Lights.
...And, after a year on this forum it's pretty clear to me that PGI wants to keep that crowd happy.
So, instead of fixing the lag-shielded cheater mechs, and putting them in their place, PGI nerfs the gun Spider drivers complain about most.

It was fine and still is which makes me feel like the change was pointless.
Still AC40 jager's running around.
Combined with the centurion nerf my wang is less than extraordinary.

It astonishes me that people can't seem to remember this age old saying.

A combination of insurmountable ignorance and thread necro in this one. Worth the time the say not worth the time.

It was done to de-sync it from PPCs... Which was far from pointless as it has been extremely effectively in that regard. The 2PPC, AC20 build was very good for alphas out to 450-500m and, of course, inwards all the way to 90m. Consider that it was reset back to the original speed from Beta, which was increased as compensation for latency because at the time HSR didnt exist.
Much like the Medium Laser heat nerf that was added to prevent boating long before the ghost heat addition and has not been reversed following ghost heat implementation; Some things were done back in the day for legitimate reasons, however many of those changes have not been reversed following the addition of functions those changes were made to compensate for.

If the AC/20 did 0 damage at 350 meters, it would still be a brawling weapon and it could still have its increased velocity.

and everyone runs dual ppcac5 builds. Waste of change and effected single ac20 builds.

2 PPC and 2 AC5/Ultra5 builds weigh more both in weapon tonnage and ammo, requiring a sacrifice of STD to XL Engine or Engine Size, etc. Sacrifice that is not insignificant and should not be ignored. 2PPC+AC20 builds, like on Victors, are quite agile and relatively fast while, at the time, being very effective.
Much like the JJ change; Now if you want good, 30+dmg pinpoint(relatively) alphas from 600+ meters, it's going to cost you... As it should have from the beginning.

Working as intended.
Also, many comments about too much Wang but we had the topscores most rounds so much laughs ensued.
