First off, I love MWO

I have been part of it since the closed beta and have enjoyed the work that has gone into it. So, serious Kudos to all the guys!

Ok,now the grumble. I don't have a problem with people who are better than me....hell I suck at most games. But I just played a match with 6 lights (Jenners, ravens and spiders) 2 assault and 4 mediums, vs 1 light, 2 medium, 4 heavy and 5 assault. We did pretty well considering but we still got absolutely caned. Watching our last light go toe to toe with 3 stalkers, a battlemaster and a hunchback was vaguely comical, but utterly futile.

So, on behalf of beleaguered mech pilots everywhere (we have, after all, all felt the pain), how soon can we expect the matchmaking algorithm to get a major overhaul?

I don't know how ELO is done on a per player basis, but strictly, it should be per chassis. I play well (as best as I can) in a light and medium mech but suck at heavies and assault. I guess then, we need to consider the weight mismatch. Total drop weight?

It's a thorny problem and one I expect is well in hand. I try not to moan, especially when I enjoy MWO so much. So, please, just help us out....give us a glimmer of hope for the future :(

Afaik ELO is calculated seperately per weight class.
The problem is, that the matchmaker doesn't really even out the drop weight for the two opposing teams. This will hopefully get addressed by the weightlimits PGI wants to introduce (no idea if there is an ETA yet)

You wont see any weight parity until groups being weight limited comes into force in a few months, and there is no indication to suggest that it might affect people playing solo, so you will still run into perceived weight imbalances.

I don't think its match maker anymore. I think its the majority of regulars play to matchmaker and there is not enough players for it to work except in high traffic times of the day.

Good matches seem to only come in certain time windows for me. The rest of the time its 90% trash.

No way of knowing for sure as PGI is not forthcoming. Need a PGI Snowden to come forward.

I have noticed this trend as well... I thought maybe it was just me.

Also keep in mind two very important things....

1) Brand new players start out with a 1300 Elo.
2) The matchmaker was given a +/- 1400 spread to put teams together. That means that a brand new person is considered to be "equal enough" to one with a 2700 Elo as far as the parameters are concerned.

Nothing wrong here. Everything is working according to telemetry and metrics. Move along, enjoy your stomp. Oh, by the way, have you seen our new sale?

It sure is a mess. From the data on http://mwomercs.com/theplan#1.32 it looks like we won't be getting a better match maker any time soon. I'd be happy if there was a primary filter based on team weight and a secondary filter based on ELO. That way we would get lots of games with similar weight limits per team and the only problem would be the pilot skill.

It would be nice if PGI came out and told the community to come up with a way to fix the matchmaker. I think many of us have good ideas about how it could be improved. We are fans of the game and we care enough to point out when something isn't working right. Please challenge us to make it better!

Tonnage limits are the answer because the Elo based matchmaking cannot really take that into account.

I wish they would just revert back to 1-1 weight class matching until they get a system that uses ELO and tonnage to match.

I feel your pain, the MM is absolutely horrible. Just hang in till April. Lobbies will be out, with the ability to control the maps and tonnage and it should be a whole new ballgame.

controlling the map will be very limited. You only get xx remap votes until they start costing you.

April of what, 2018?

Ok, sorry for the sarcasm. I've been around long enough to know that ANY projected deadline for ANYTHING they say is going to happen should be viewed the same way as watching the weather on the news. Unless they say "There will be weather, stick your head out the window and look for yourself," I tend not to believe them.....but, then, I live in Colorado...you get what I'm saying.

No, sir, I do believe the matches will be crappy for single pilot pugging for quite some time. If, and when, they do release the lobby system, it will all change. You can't whine about a bad match you had the option of leaving before it dropped.

That didn't work very well either, Awesomes were matched up against Atlases, and so on down the weight class ranges.

It wouldn't be perfect but it's a lot easier to face off against 8 atlases in 8 stalkers than it is with 4 Phracts, 3 Hunchies, and a locust :)

I would take it over the massive tonnage mismatches we get with how things are now.
