i was always wondering what really is the difference if you have artemis or not

its clear for LRM's as noted in the ingame tooltip

streak srm is unsure for me if it really helps (maybe faster lock?)

so for the real question, whats the difference for SRM 2/4/6 with or without artemis?

Dumbfire SRMs don't spread out as much when they have Artemis equipped. Usually isn't worth it for the 2s or 4s, since they have pretty low spread anyways. Starts to be pretty powerful with 3 SRM6 or more, but by then it's also a considerable tonnage investment.

Streak SRMs aren't supposed to benefit from Artemis, though they do receive a shorter lock time due to a bug.

Artemis tightens the spread of the SRMs, making it easier to pinpoint their damage. As for SSRMs + artemis, they lock faster.

In the manual, they give SRMs a tighter guidance.

In lore, they focus SRMs from their easily distracted nature (books say they are normally heat guided and I'm sure you've seen there are a lot of heat sources; Artemis makes them follow a 'beam').

In MWO since SRMs do not have guidance, they simply follow a tighter spread.

Streaks do give a faster lock, but only because streaks share lock-on code with LRMs. The result is a bug. Unfortunately it's so back of the back burner that we may never see them address it.

The tighter spread makes an SRM salvo work more like a slow projectile than a cloud. In general, you take SRM2/4 without Artemis (backup weapon), or SRM6 with Artemis (main weapon).
