OK so I'm new and I have checked the forum but I can't find an answer. In the round, taking account of ranges, ammo counts, damage per second and usability which is better suited to the Black Jack . The AC 2 makes me feel safer and I'm sure I do more damage per round with it but I seem to get more kills with the AC5?

Please don't toast me for this thread :D

Neither. BJ-1 is dead duck if you try for DPS. Gotta go high alpha, move and scoot.

1x LBX10 + 4x MLas has worked well for me. Riding shotgun
You only need 3 tons of ammo. You rarely run out. Just don't expect to be able to hurt anyone from far, LBX doesn't fit for that. Use your cover and get close enough while assaults form a line. Then shoot double taps, MLas first and LBX after that. Fire and displace. Use jets to get new places, newer show up twice from the same spot.
If you play wise, you are in good shape at the end of the fight. Then join brawls and let em have in weak spots. First fire everything when you think you can hit. If heat starts to build, let the mlas rest a while.

I have been getting constant 550+ damage with this and it's my best K/D ratio mech.

Oh, one more thing Dandy; right now, the way jumpjets work, the first jumpjet gets you to 50% of your maximum possible jump height, and the remaining 50% is split up between the rest of the jets. So if you have a mech that can jump 100m with 6 total jumpjets, one jet gets you 50m, 2 gets you 60m, 3 is 70m, 4 is 80m, 5 is 90m, and 6 is 100m. As you can see, it's almost always worth putting one jet on your mech if you can- you get a LOT of benefit for just a half ton! But the remaining jumpjets don't do much for you, and I would only recommend them if you really really can't possibly find anything else you want to put weight into, like armor, heatsinks, or ammo.

My fave BJ-1 build is an XL235, ERPPC, UAC5, + ML. I'd stay away from DPS builds that force you to plink away while exposed.

The UAC may jam, but the way I play I just back up and wait for it to clear. Stay far back and use Adv Zoom for pinpoint aim. Exit cover, fire the ERPPC, double tap from the UAC, and then back away. I've played with the Ac20 build a few times, but it's a risky proposition trying to get in close enough to do real damage--I just don't have much luck with it.

Here is my Black Jack build with ac5s and a STD engine

BJ-1

Play it as a fire support and move with your assaults to draw fire off you. You will then rack up a lot of damage if the enemy ignores you. I like having a standard engine because it seems to throw people off. Everyone assumes I have an xl and go straight for the side torso. I've had a Jaeger shoot my left torso off and turned around because he thought I was dead. Took a few shots at his exposed rear CT and killed him. And when you run out of ammo, and/or lose your arms, you still have the lasers for back up in the side torsos.

So there really is little point in having more than 2 jump jets at the moment ?

I had first 2xAC2, 4med lasers, an XL 195 engine and endo steel on it 6 tons of ammo for the AC2´si can say if you aim for the leg even an assault mech who underestimate you will fall. the AC2 fire pretty fast and the leg armour of any mech can´t stand that lon. i later used 2xAC5 and 2 med laser was working pretty well too.

i found Two ac 2/s were just too dam hot to sustain damage
@buzzkill - that standard engine build certainly looks nice but daaa jumpjets (yeah fitting it would be tough)

so heres a blackjack build i ran before i sold it B)
My leg armor and 120 ac 5 ammo seemed to work very well for me
mainly due to stay back as a support mech

Drop 1 small laser for full leg armor
BJ-1 - 2 AC 5 -2 medium lasers - 2 small lasers - 1 jumpjet - 83.2

but small lasers dropped for max leg armor and 89 KPH
You can also change the 2 medium lasers to 4 small lasers for more close range DPS
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...97309d815dce893

and the slower 79.2 KPh , Twin Ac 5 - 150 AC 5 ammo - 2 mediums - 1 small lasers blackjack with good leg armor
You could drop the cockpit armor if you want to fit a small laser in ;)
BJ-1 - Two Ac 5 - 150 AC 5 ammo - 2 medium lasers - 1 jumpjet - 79.2 KPH

So it's pretty much decided that the BJ to have is the BJ-1 for ballistics and the BJ-3 as the laser alternative.?
