Second that. Unfortunately people don't seem to understand what the word 'ASSAULT' means.

--Note to red team Atlas pilot i encountered last night doing just what he should. Advance relentlessly. My 53.7 alpha's barely slowed him, (although i died shortly after being cut off by an ecm kit fox and commando ooh the embarrassment, i'll never know what happened to him good chap). Kudos!--

Adding to this "assault" problem.... people who habitually pilot assault mechs, that don't use them as assault mechs, and play the persecuted victim when people criticize them for not filling their role.
I've heard assault pilots whine that they aren't frontline units, and that the heavies and mediums should be going in first, so many freaking times.

Also, people who think Clan mechs are invincible, and dying in one automatically means that you're the worst player in the world. Just shut up.

Lol direwolves should be able to take 5 direct ac20 hits to their centre torso before their armour comes off. And before a critical hit is a danger to their engine.

I'm even more bewildered now as to why a lot of direfails spend most of their time hiding????

Because people don't usually shoot at them with a single AC/20. It's the same reason most assault pilots hang back. Once they are in it there is no going back whether their team elects to support them or not.

personal one from the weekend- got my first set of "old man" glasses and trying to get used to the triple tier of vision they give me now from my regular glasses. couldn't hit anything to save my life. was constantly "just" missing the other guy until he decided to start shooting the stalker and i could finally just stand still and shoot him successfully. one guy was so impressed with my aim he told me (assuming it was me- was me and the stalker left vs a Shadowhawk) that i should try aiming to miss and maybe i'd hit him that way. we did win though

You'd be better off without the glasses. If you cannot see anything without them, get a pair without the progressive lenses for reading.

it's the opposite for me i need them for reading. without glasses my vision is clear for approximately 5 inches away or less. was more looking through the top part when should be looking through the middle part so i was misjudging a lot. also the vision towards the side (like when moving the arm weapons beyond the center of the screen) is different from my old glasses. they say it takes a week or two to fully adjust to the differences. so naturally i played on day 1 :)

had a atlas DDC in my team. first thing he said: HOLD LOCKS PLS; LRM SUPPORT HERE.
smashed my head on the desk and suicided. knew its gonna be a total blowout. and it came like that.
there are assaults that are good at that. stalker or awesome/battlemaster variants.
BUT NOT A DAMN ATLAS.

I'm not so sure Assaults should ever be LRM boats.
Catas are good at that. Madcat S can be good at that (as I've discovered... you wouldn't think so, but it's true). But an assault chassis? I wouldn't think the word "tank" would be so lost on MMO gamers, anymore....

im not sure about that either but sometimes a stalker or a longbow can be damn useful in the field i guess.

It isn't lost on anyone. If there were a healer in this game you might have a point. An assault cannot soak damage as a tank would because there is no way to get the lost health back. They can still function that way if they properly supported. Properly supporting them means you have to expose yourself. There are fewer people willing to expose themselves than there are assaults willing to let themselves get hung out to dry.

Well, then attention all Assault pilots..... if I drop with you in my BrawlCat, I am willing to rush in, ERML's and AC-5's blazing, to support you. I like fighting. There's a reason I worked so hard to fit two AC's on my Madcat.

(note: perhaps it's the fact that the only MMO I have ever played is EVE, but I didn't think a "tank" required logi to do its job. Example: "brick tank" Ferox)

Skirmish on Tourmaline desert

lone Dire Wolf coming through a choke point, no friendlies within 200m of him

I drop an arty right on top of him

as the smoke blooms, a friendly jagermech charges forward, and stops right in the exact spot the arty smoke is coming from..

so yes, I got my first headshot arty kill.....and it was a team kill because the teammate had such extreme tunnel vision that he decided the arty smoke was obscuring his view of the Dire Wolf and the only way to get a clear shot was to run and stand in the smoke as the arty rained

smh

Two UAVS over my team

I am in a near stock ADR-A

I call out to my team to shoot the UAVs as I cannot - and told them I cannot
(Torso mounted lasers and all)

Only teammate to respond?
"So shoot them"

>.<

Edit: we lost that match - 7-12

When I died we were 7-8, and I had some hope of it turning around
(would have qualified for the tourny's bonus!)

People that keep walking right up behind you as you break cover to shoot then try to reverse only to find some moron is nowl standing in your place using you as a meat shield while he thinks its a good idea to try and get some rounds off too. Which end up hitting you in the back at point blank range. Morons.

More back shooting team killing antics tonight...Sighhh. and sparodic Pug players that have all the sensory awareness of a deaf bat.

Oh well at least i had some 700+ damage games in my new wolverine 7k tonight and showed some timberwolfs who's boss.
