Some guy I know from across my condo unit told me he has that and asked me to get in on it cause he knew I was into the video games and I laughed at him and went and played basketball. .

Well, at least you showed him how much of a pretentious pr*ck you are. Congratulations?

Pretty much sums it up.

Battletech is a tabletop game using metal / resin / plastic minis, no carboard to my knowledge, and I wish people round here actually played it so I could start it again.

Some versions did include cardboard cutouts as mech representations. But this guy's attitude sounds completely toxic and disrespectful. It's like if someone offers the Lord of the Rings books to a fan of the movies and they just get laughed at and insulted. That's classy.

And I'm really sick of seeing people wanting this game to go farther and farther away from the original game it was designed after.

This game is solidly based on tabletop. I'm sorry it doesn't fit into your 'perfect game' mold, but we do have nearly 30 years of history here. And so far, MW:O is the closest any game has come to being a good representation of tabletop and its rule set.

Of course there are things that have to be changed in the transition from tabletop to computer game, but why change things just for the sake of change? "I have half a ton left over" isn't a good enough reason.

You don't even have a reason for not wanting half-ton ammo packs aside from "HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR B-B-BUT MUH TABLETOP," despite the fact that the game is already radically different from tabletop if only because it's an actual VIDEO GAME, not to mention all the other rules and values that were changed to accommodate it being a video game.

If somebody wants to fit in more ammo but doesn't want or need a full ton that's a perfectly valid reason. If you just say "no it isn't" without any actual reason and claim that it's just "change for the sake of change" even though it does serve a valid purpose, then your opinion is objectively worthless.

Table top justification or not.. what practical balance reason exists for not allowing half tons? I love the TT but I'm not beholden to it as some form of gospel.

Pretty much none at all. Well, there might be a tiny issue depending on how we round values for weapons with an odd number of ammo per ton (i.e. round up and then 2 half tons would give more ammo than a full normal ton) but that can be easily solved by just rounding down (i.e. half ton of AC/20 ammo would give 3 shots, not 4).

The justification for rounding down is that you can't fire anything but a full round of ammo.

I must have missed that TRO that outlined the rules for ghost heat...

lol

You know as well as I do that that's meant to keep boaters from boating.

Which isn't a problem in tabletop, because there is no pinpoint damage.

But make the damage in MW:O act like tabletop (random die rolls), and you would see screaming on the forums like the internet has never seen before.

So, they have to have anti-boating measures.
