Well that explains that then. I wondered why I was seemingly "Carrying More" than the others. Turns out I was. I was carrying 8.333% to their 8%. Slackers. :P

If more people would attack in the north games would be a lot more varied. Its a PUG problem, not a map problem.

Alpine has good visibility and long firing lanes, something which is greatly missing on other maps. Also your mech will not melt. +1 Alpine.

You mean Terra Therma and that is called "derpherding to the PUGzapper" when someone says "Hey guys, lets all go center". Let the hilarity ensue at that point...

OMG! The other night, we txt'd, lets not go center this time, lets flank. A bunch of OK's and "rgr that" like it was a good idea.

Then someone must have turned on the PUGzapper. Like Moths to the flame they went. LOL!

It was sadly funny. We lost. :)

Alpine is one of those maps that the shorter your ranges, the longer your "safe path" becomes.

I was in a brawler Thunderbolt at one point on Alpine, and when the other team took the hill? We went wide. WAY wide, around and behind them, then just came barreling down where the distance to engage was far smaller.

The other side crashed and burned, I got 3 kills out of it, and laughed like a maniac when I realized our exit point put us 500m away from their sniper and LRM pack...and none of them were looking our way. By the time they were turning, we were already at facemelting range and the slaughter began.

Two of them had no idea how we got there without being seen. But we did, and we won.

Playing the long game on Alpine isn't just about weapons range.

I'll be honest. I'm a bit drunk and english is not my mother tongue, so please excuse my mistakes.

I hate alpine so much. Really. Every second on it is like pounding rusty nails through my knees. I love MWO, and i love gaming in general. Playing all kind of games for so many years now. But this map really makes me want to punch through my monitor. I'm not a violent kind of guy. But each and every second on this map corrupts my soul and makes me want to murder someone.

It is an abomination. It's probably the worst map i have ever played. Every second i spent on it annihilates 1 minute of fun i had with MWO.

Did i mention i don't like alpine?

I don't mind Alpine, I just mind that it comes up in rotation about 30% more than other maps. Literally. Look at your profile and map stats; look at how many Alpine drops you get.

Meh. Dial it back a bit plox thx.

Alpine is funny. One of the only decently sized maps, but really needs some damn details.

It's not impossible to play short range on that map, but it is very reliant on team behavior for it not to be a shit show.

This is big. If you can get your team to buy into not running to the bottom of the big hill and getting slaughtered, it can be fun.

But good luck with that sometimes.

Eh, I don't know bud. Since the reset, I've played 338 games and only 9% (29) have been on Alpine. Looking at my archived data, only 10% (328 out of 3,332) have been on Alpine. I'd say that is pretty good distribution.

Nothing can be done. There aren't enough maps. We need PGI to allow the community make maps insteed of just PGI. This will allow PGI to have more time to work on the rest of the game and the community will have a basic steady flow of decent maps

What happens to me is usually the following.

I select my brawler and get Alpine.
I select my LRM boat (it a mini LRM boat (a Griffin)) and I get HPG Manifold with the enemy inside.

The Gods of Random sometimes hate me. :)

Jokes aside, there is no map that I really hate. Yes sometimes a map doesn't suit the Mech, but with proper tactics every Mech is of use on any map. More or less (sometimes more sometimes less).

Would explain your losing streak... 96.3333% < 100% required for victory.

Sorry I had stepped away for a moment to enjoy some breakfast as I don't like food around the battlestation. This thread may seem a tad "ranty" because I had one of those perfect scenarios where not only does your pug wander about like chickens scratching at the ground, but they were the same awful players I was stuck with in a previous match prior to alpine which compounded my frustrations. By the time I was one of the only few left, I literally stopped trying and went in blazing. BUT.... the map really does suck imo, and has been universally loathed since inception according to the several threads about it. That's undenyable. We've all known this for a long time and it constantly creates one of the worst snowball scenarios due to poor design to be displayed in a colorful image I slapdashed together below. For those who enjoy the map, good for you! Every once in a while I even enjoy it too, in a brawler no less because that's what I mainly run. Anyways enjoy the "Cartoon" of how I feel the map is "one dimensional" and if you see me on Alpine, don't hate the player, hate the game. I wouldn't drop on that map if I had a choice. Here's the silly NSFW version that you shouldn't click if you dislike naughty language, and the censored one below. Cheers Posted Image

Lol'd at this one. I do like alpine though, I just hate when it takes a long time to get the action going. River city with turrets is terriboring.

Mine is 12% out of 564 matches, so a good sample size. We have 13 maps; each map should get about 7.6% rotation.

That's the problem. We're seeing Alpine almost 1/2 again as often as we should.

Actually, no, we've got 10 maps. Only 3 of them have alternate modes (Forrest Colony, Frozen City, and River City). The map finder ends up halving the % chance of those 3 so that they're not over weighted. Of course, maps aren't weighted equally anyway as the new maps always have a greater % chance of popping up so that they can be vetted by the public. Regardless, I hate that your Alpine has been so large. I really enjoy the map a lot more than the stupidity that is Canyon Network and Terra Screw You.

Fair enough, I can see the logic in putting the day/night and Forest Colony variants in the same cycle, but still. I've got significant more drops on Alpine; not a little, significant. Statistically so anyway. About 20 or 30 more drops than any other map save HPG, which I expect to be in higher rotation.

Tone it down to standard is all I ask.

Then they created Terra Therma...
