So you are charging around in your light mech at 150k. The going gets rough and you have made enough of a nuisance of yourself that the big boys start putting group fire your way. Discretion being the better part of valour you dive round a corner to cool down before the next charge of the light brigade. There, standing in front of you, is a big juicy heavy, clearly AFK, no other mechs around. The score board says your team are in trouble you should really get back in the fight but... There's points to be had, easy points, a leg, an arm or two... The team is losing but you can go out with an epic score no trouble, all you have to do is stay there and play target practice on a non-moving target.

What do you do?

Shoot it in the back until it's dead, on the off chance they suddenly return to their keyboard. Then go help the team.

Damage farming is bad, Mkay?

Take the headshot if you want, but don't spend 3 minutes farming every point of damage you can.

You leave it. Damage is worth a lot but isn't doesn't winning pay out more?

But, yeah, help your team.

Get back to the fight. Easy question.

This!
But the head is also a viable target.

If my team is going down anyway, it doesn't matter if I spend ten seconds for myself. If my team is winning, the answer is the same. Only when it is a close fight, the lone AFK mech might get spared. There is still the chance he might come back into the fight, so even in the close case he might need to die.

I'd never farm for damage!

Me? I'd rush back to the fight.

Most other people I've seen? They'd stand there shooting it, so kudos to all those who say they wouldnt.

High scores don't count if you damage farm. Especially if you literally damage farm afk mechs while your team is still fighting and losing.

Check the scoreboard, if you see a "Disconnected" on their team tag it for the assist and get back to the fight.

If you don't see that taking the cockpit or rear CT does have some merit.

It' really doesn't. minimal damage (i.e. cockpit shot) to ensure a mech is down isn't damage farming, it's prudent. A D/C is questionable.

personally folks should be glad we Don't have R&R anymore because we used to run up peoples repair bills if they afk'd, d/c'd or were generally *******. Again not damage farming so much as vigilante justice.

If you are killing an AFK mech, then you should be killing it through it's head.. because there's no reason not to, and it's the fastest way to kill the mech.

And if you do that, then the issue becomes moot, because it'll only take two volleys to kill it.

It does to the Epeen brigade...because you can't prove they damaged farmed.

Cockpit shot the afk mech; the pilot might be out taking a piss but he isn't gonna have a ride now!

Then go help the team. After all if you let that ***** live, he'll turn the entire fight around.

Even if it's a light, it'll still change the entire outcome of the match if left alive!

I would go for the headshot, 2 or 3 times with 4 med lasers should kill the mech quickly.

Since winning doesn't mean much to me, I always go for the kills because they are worth more to me personally.

Still haven't found a reason to place winning a match over trying to get the most kills in the match. Winning is just a by-product of killing.

So, to answer the question, take out the AFK immediately then get back in the fight.
