Finishing up my Degree in Game Art And Design from AIO. I Graduate in August. My current class is a team project were we actually create a game. 98% awesome, but 2% grindy. So I decided to step away from the grind for a night or two and create something I wanted to make. That and to start pimping myself out for potential jobs.

This is my version of the Cyclops Battlemech, MWO Style.

Modeling Time: <6 hrs
Texturing Time: <1 hr

Thoughts on Design

The traditional cyclops head always struck me more of a KENDO mask used for fencing and practice swordplay. I decided to highlight that as a feature rather than simply trying to hide it in the torso. Next up the communication array I used to form the shell helm. Rather than do the traditional Mullet I wanted something a bit cooler.

Next up was trying to both pay homage to the potbelly but rub some badassery on it. I like to think I drew a solid balance.

The Feet in partuclar I payed special attention to. If you look at the original artwork they sort of got that split hoof / bovine look to it. So I went ahead and went with the saytr look rather than going for the flat duck feet.

I have to hit the sack for now, but later tonight or tomorrow I will post up some "Posed" shots, slap on some stencils to make the paintjob really pop and since all the equipment is modular I can throw on how I think the hardpoints should be.

Nice!

(but I think the feet could be a little larger, to support this 90 tons machine)

really like it. Might have preferred a flat face bowl, overall, with it, but really like it anyhow.

I cleaned up the textures.

Btw, if you are a 3d Artist, I HIGHLY recommend getting a hold of substance painter for texturing and painting your model. TWO Thumbs WAY WAY Up. It's pretty much the future of making materials for models.

Nice modeling of the Cyclops! :D
Odanan has a good point though, enlarge the feet... it might topple over with those hoofed feet. increase length of feet by like 10-15%.
