Taking bets now that PGI will add the Annihilator but hide it behind the Wolf's Dragoons faction grind playwall.

:)

If not a Pay wall then a Loyalty Wall will be acceptable to me. I like the Annihilator, I remember getting my ash handed to me by one in MW3(?), But that does not mean I want to see House Liao fielding them, or any one other than Dragoons!

DEVA-FING-STATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much better platform than scrub crab.
2 arm mounted gauss with lower arm actuators, 2 ppcs in side torsos, 2 or 3 forward facing Mlas in ct/side torsos, and 2 rear facing (just swap to front like done with CTF-1X).
The devastator could compete with the Direwolf in terms of firepower, outclass it in speed, match it in armor, outmatch it in sexiness, outmatch it in NAME, outmatch it in torso twist, arm movement, and would give PGI a chance to make up for making banshee so ugly. The devastators beautiful art could be redone into something truly astonishing with Cry engine.
I realize it doesnt match timeline quite. But timeline is trash anyway since they just rolled back lol.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Devastator

PS: (not sure) but doesnt the King Crab use split weapons to achieve the arm mounted ac20s and have lower arm actuators? (again not sure)

EDIT: The ONLY downside is the cost of a devastator. Matching that of clan mechs, with the DVS-2 being 22 million cbills (introductory variant was only like 10 mill). Also not much variation in weapon loadouts/hardpoints (similar to stalkers, could be fixed by having one variant have 4 ballistic, or more energy, or one variant mount ac20 (probably a gamebreaker lol))

Pooty may have a point. With the Low slung Arms, :) A King Crab will be kneecapping the enemy while a Devastator will be able to hit torsos!

Hopefully we'll seem some soon, but speaking of banshee. Why does the banshee come with a stock ac5 but gets 4 hard points? Don't think any single weapon in any other mech has the hard point inflated so much, why does the ac5 turn into 4 hard points? Atlas comes with ac10/gauss but only gets 1-2. You also look at mechs on the other end, like the adder only comes with 1 energy per arm but mounts ppcs stock but doesn't get any inflation.

A pay wall and a play wall are two sides of the same coin, and both are equally unacceptable.

A pay wall is a barrier to people who have time but not money.

A play wall is a barrier to people who have money but not time.

Most gamers, for some inexplicable reason, seem to think that play walls are fine and dandy; that they're just part of the game. The irony if it is that play walls exclude/hinder the people who can actually support the game by paying for it.

Think of them as spoils of war!

Alternatively, you'd have people being loyalty whores, going from faction to faction and playing Pokemon with all the "Unique" mechs, even if they couldn't R&R them.

Sorry man but EXCLUSIVE to the Dragoons till the Jihad and then only the Exiles and Kell's got em! That is pretty exclusive, and I will be very happy to never have the ability to buy one.

I'm with you from a lore point of view, but we crossed that bridge long ago with Hero Mechs.

Plus it's a crappy game mechanic. I don't think anything should be available solely for cash (like Heroes) or solely for a time grind (anything tied to Wolf's Dragoons, etc). It's fine to tweak values to encourage one of the other, but I think you should always be able to pay or play your way to access.

Don't want someone paying their way to some Mech? Charge $100 or 10MM c-bills. The time-not-money people can play ~100 matches to earn it.

Would rather someone pay cash for a particular Mech? Charge $10 for it or 100MM c-bills. The money-not-time people will drop a tenner and be on their way.

(numbers made up and not meant to be suggestions.)

All four of the basic Highlanders - the HGN-732, HGN-733, HGN-733C, and HGN-733P - are from BattleTech canon.

Even the Heavy Metal Hero 'Mech has some basis in BattleTech canon, as it represents PGI's take on the personal BattleMech of Rhonda Snord.

So, Ice Trey, do tell which variant of the Highlander you think PGI made up? :)

Hmm. Actually, You caught me there. I was sure that the 733C was fake, but a quick check of my PDF says otherwise. Not sure how that happened. I remember coming across some variant of a 'mech and it not being in the Record Sheet PDFs, being a bit surprised by it, and then shrugging it off as "PGI does it again".

I stand corrected.

Well, you'll be able to pack 2 AC20s and 2 PPCs for true 60 PP FLD, and you'll even be able to alpha at least once.

Both STD and XL builds can do that, although they'll be pretty similar in tonnage, since you can't fit Endo and an XL if you pack 2 AC20s.

Same, but lower heat 2 PPC 2 Gauss can also be done. It can do 60 rounds, 2 PPCs and a stock STD, or a larger XL engine+Endo.

Mauler would be kewl, but it lacks variants.

Plus it's a damn wall of a mech.

Quote

Annihilator would be even slower than the Dire Whale, and would lack the benefits of Clan tech.

Plus easiest cockpit shot ever.

Quote

Devastator is short by 1 variant.

Plus it's basically another generic humanoid. Also default varient is PPCs and gauss rifles. No thanks.

Quote

Thunder Hawk and Gunslinger aren't available yet.

Plus the Thunderhawk mounted three freaking gauss rifles.

Quote

...This leaves us with the King Crab, which I think might have issues with the critslot allocation of its AC/20s. I've heard from some sources that its original record sheet lacked lower arm actuators, which would let it use a pair of AC/20s just fine. However, more recent record sheets have lower arm and hand actuators, which require crit splitting...which is a construction rule that MWO lacks.

The KGC has no hands, only stylized muzzle covers. remove the damn hand actuators. This is like the one mech I want in this game.

Quote

For existing mechs, we could get the Victor 9A, which would have its leg MGs moved up to the side torsos.

We have enough Victors already. Let another mech tech the role of ballistic mech.

Viva la King Crab!
