So players complained and now there is no one time start up costs on a
Merc company. But people still think there will be an every match R&R cost?

I wonder how many 1 man merc companies there will be.

it was all in the name of "listening to feedback". That's what PGI does. It caters to a specific demo like that and then says "See? We listened".
smh

With that announcement I've lost faith in having any kind of meaningful CW.

seriously?
2 years and counting on collisions
nearly 2 years for a UI
Groups nearly 2 years

Normal?
ok

How can something be delayed if they never put a date on it? Collisions they never put a date on. The group stuff required 2.0. 2.0 was not a 2 year wait. More about a year from when they said they'd have it in. Which yes is on longish side, but again, games have gotten away with worse.

Collisions aren't needed and would be a gigantic pain since we have 12v12 on maps that are really small in some cases, which were probably designed for 8v8.

Since people have no real fear of losing their mech, until there is some reason to NOT suicide your mechs around griefing people, collision should never be in.

It would also mean less light and medium mechs than there already is.

They haven't made a single announcement that didn't result in you concluding that MWO won't have "meaningful" CW.

Every. Single. One. Sarah's Jenner? "There's proof once again that CW will be meaningless!"

Some people will just complain about anything everything...

They haven't created a meaningful reason not to die in their game that has existed for a few years now. It isn't shocking that people have little to no faith in them delivering something functional and engaging right out of the box.

Considering the style of game this is and always was going to be, people actually expected there to be a meaningful reason not to die? Even similar styled games that have R&R have the R&R tuned that dieing is barely discouraged at all.

R&R still made people think about their actions most of the time and what they were shooting at if they had ammo weapons. Even that's a step in the right direction.

Durability on weapons OR only tech 2-3 equipment, but not engines would also be a step in the right direction. If you die a lot or are constantly having your mech stripped, you'll be replacing bits and pieces every so often.

That would not stop people from not caring about death. Only when it it is severe to the point that people will go broke will people care. Even then, people will just find the cheapest most effective builds to go with or worse, suicide run with builds that are for all intents and purposes, useless but yield rewards that outweigh the losses.

If people didn't mind losing anything they gain, we'd probably have a system like that in the game already. Casuals hate it. In full loot games it tends to severely punishing, hence why those games are low population. I believe there's a happy medium where casuals could accept some sort of mech maintenance if they keep getting blown up.

People were playing more conservative with the past R&R system. It needed tweaks, not total abandonment.

People were also abusing the hell out of it. Something that happens in all games with R&R, no matter the tweaks. It also strictly went against the idea of playing what you wanted to play.

Pretty sure in almost every other good engaging game on the market, you can't always use what you want, for whatever reason. Your choice or something in game making it not such a good idea.

Most mechs were balanced designs. Those that aren't, tend to have their drawbacks. Disgusting Mono LRM builds are costly to run and I wouldn't mind seeing back to back games in CW where you don't have time to rearm your ammo, nudging players into putting more thought into their game under certain circumstances. The inherent drawback of ammo builds VS energy isn't represented.

CW should be a platform where they can add features that steer that game mode away from these pointless arena drops OR give us more of the same we've had for the last few years.

I'm thinking it will be more of the same unless they grow a pair and try something fairly bold....which again, I doubt.

Engaging is entirely subjective. Successful, many successful games have you lose nothing for losing.

Oh and they have said multiple times R&R will not return, even in CW.

I have to stop taking vacations. Or better yet, can you get a list of all the people who follow my every post, so I can PM them when I plan on being away for a bit?

By the way, Seattle and Portland are fun cities. I expect Mycrus will be posting pics from my Flickr account soon. It's a good thing I look so good. :(

I totally have a group, but we're down to 8 players. 4 of them aren't even officially in the group.

Such is life in the inner sphere.

8 is better than what we've got... 3 on a semi-regular basis, 1 hopping on part time but more just starting out thankfully... either way...

Nice to know it won't cost a small dropship to start up a Unit...

I dont know what u guys think what CW will be,but here is my idea..
Make it similar like Dota2. Instead of towers make mini bases and at the main base we should protect.
That should be the battle mode. After the battle finishes (the main base destroyed) switch playstyle to somthing similar like Mount&Blade where you roam across the field searching for new battle or aiding your house teammates in battle.
Like the creeps in Dota2 make tanks and rocket artillery in MWO.
The 15min battle now we have(it ends in 7-8min of the gameplay) is way to short...
I want it to be a 40 min playtime with lots of tactics.
After you get destroyed in that battle you wait like 1-2 mins or more for the new dropshit to land and deploy units(so while you wait to respawn the turrets get damaged by the oncoming force of enemy mechs, so they advance toward your main base).
Once again, Mount&Blade(if u guys played it) has a very good "not in battle" mode.. where u go in various cities, go in taverns, hire mercs, join houses (kindom of swadia is good for their knights, so steiner house should get atlases as strongest units)...
I dont know how is that compatible with the CW plan devs now have... but they should focus on somthing like that.
I think, the main reason why this game is boring to some players is the short time match round, and the lack of maps.
JUST PUT some AI controlled tanks and mobile rocket launchers that spawns every 3-4 mins, put some mini bases with turrets and put a main base with lot of defense and a spawn timer for players. After destroying the opponent base, reward the winning team with some ppc's, AC's, etc.
Also, to play more carefull with your mech i would add WAIT FOR REPAIRS time when u wreck your mech in fights(just like in mw 4)... so, u wreck your atlas, you wait 1 day - 12 hours or any time above 1 hour. (for the new/poor players it will be hard, so trial mechs shouldnt have wait for repairs timer).
Oh and another thing, PUT the mech repair bay that will activate every 20min for 5min durations.. so i would love to see people stay in line waiting for repairs ;)
(description: repair bay can not repair and rearm lost arm/leg/weapon).
I

ideas for CW series events

Add drop/launch limits during CW events(i.e. you can consecutively drop in a CW event 10 times after the 10th time you can not drop. each drop can be refreshed in a allotted time say 10mins,for example, to refresh then you recovered a drop. To keep it fair you can not buy drops as the CW event gets closer to expire date and time refresh time for drops is shorten like to 4mins to refresh, during normal matchmaking you can play as normal without limits.

Have a registration period to lock in your clan/faction, once the CW series event start you can not choose another to prevent “behind the scene” control. The following CW event, you decide to go to another clan/faction you will be facing contribution reduction, stay with clan/faction at the start of the series to the end should add a bonus contributions per event till the series is finishes.

Add Special CW event like bid for terra where the clans and comstar agree on where the battles be held and conditions met
