Terra Therma, Planet Mordor.
River City Night.
Mount Cerll, Alpine Peaks, Planet Hoth.

I know we all have our least favourite maps, the ones we think the game would do well to remove; but I have a curiosity.

What are y'all's best and worst maps? This is not a subjective question, mind you: what maps do you get your highest and lowest win/loss ratios?

For me, for example, my best maps are:

-Frozen City (night; day is currently at win/loss parity)
-Terra Therma
-River City (day)

And my worst:

-Forest Colony (not snow)
-HPG "Borg Cube" Manifold
-A tie between River City (night) and Alpine

------

For those who want to combine Forest, Frozen, and River's different modes into single maps (a fair argument,) this is how it modifies my list.

Best:
-Terra Therma
-Frozen City
-Tourmaline

Worst:
-HPG
-Alpine Peaks
-Forest Colony

It's odd that I* do well on hot maps as a rule (even Caustic is at parity right now,) while doing poorly on cold maps - and this despite the fact that I don't run ballers like Baby Jager, Jager, or Cataphract (currently; I did for a while in OB.)

How about you? Where do you win or struggle to find victory?

*I = the team that I'm on at the time, of course.

Noticed a while ago that my perception is different to my stats page.

Best:
HPG
Alpine Peaks
Frozen City Night

Worst:
Caustic Valley
Forest Colony
Frozen City

It is not what i expected. Combined the results are the same.

Best:
Tourmaline
River Night (dafuq! I HATE that map)
Alpine.

I heart Tourmaline, its far and away my favorite map in the game.

Worst
Frozen City
River City
Mordor.

Go figure the three that people like to camp.

Believe it or not. My best map is frozen city. But my worst map is frozen city night. ;)

Unsurprisingly, Mordor is my lowest at 1.27 ratio after 151 drops.

Surprisingly, Alpine has my highest W/L at 1.9 after 152 dops.

I would have thought Alpine would be lower. I was surprised about how even the map distribution was, with all of them being within 50 matches.

It should be obvious though. Maps that favor the meta have a better W/L ratio. I have quite a few maps that compete with lowest W/L ratio, but that's probably because there's more cover and don't meta well (or just being small maps).

If you look at Alpine as a meta-shooting range, then the results are not surprising. ;)

I actually had a cry complaining that all of the noobs were running up to "noob hill" this morning. DUH you control about 3/4 of the map from up there.

The WubShee and my Awesomes don't agree with that assessment.

I dunno if I'll ever go WubShee, because of Paul.

I need to go for the Awesome experiment at some point, but I need more C-bills.... ;)

Lurms are effective once you dominate the hill though, generally speaking.

My best:
River City
Forest Colony Snow
Terra Therma

My worst:
Forest Colony
River City Night
Crimson Straight

I really don't know how the variants make so much difference. ;)

Worst:

Forest Colony...never won a single match. Actually, same with River City Night.
Crimson Straight, then Tourmaline Desert.

My Best:

Frozen City, Forest Colony Snow, and tied for third is River City and Terra Therma.

Top 3
  • Frozen City Night (1.81)
  • Tourmaline Desert (1.63)
  • HPG Manifold (1.35)

I love, love, love HPG manifold. It's not too small, and the arrangement rewards clever use of cover more than most maps. Best enjoyed in tiny 'Mechs. Frozen City, I have no idea why that one has my highest Win/Loss ratio, but it does. I'm chalking it up to all those times me and a friend made match-clutching flanks through the tunnels in cheese Jagers. Tourmaline? It's just a damn good map.

Bottom 3
  • Canyon Network (0.75)
  • River City (0.83)
  • River City Night/Caustic Valley (0.92)

I absolutely hate River City. That map is way too small for the sight-lines it features and there are too many tiny little things to trip over (like the bridges in lower city and the rubble in the refinery area). Caustic Valley, I actually like, but as a Light pilot I need my team to be proactive to really contribute. Instead, they tend to want to gather in the D4 area...the least defensible position on the map. Gathering there is a surefire way to get surrounded and creamed. Even being active in chat and actually moving to where I need them to go doesn't seem to work too often. Canyon Network is just a really awful map, the smallest in the game, with extremely limited maneuvering options. There are ways to play it, but team cohesion is even more paramount.

River City (Day): 3.67
Tourmaline Desert: 2.38
Alpine Peaks: 2.11

Well I really can't draw many parallels here. River City is one of those maps that's been around forever, and I've played since beta, so that may have something to do with my success. I don't find it a map I particularly enjoy like the latter two however (It's so small). Night is right out, I have trouble seeing anything. Tourmaline is nice and big, open, and has room to maneuver, although it has a great deal of annoying rocks and terrain hitbox issues. Alpine's probably my favorite map, even if it does devolve into a few set strategies. I just like the size and the aesthetic.

Frozen City (.67)
Caustic Valley (.72)
Crimson Strait (.75)

And here's where I eat those words about old maps. I'm just BAD at Frozen City. Either because thermal vision's been nerfed, or because the tunnel (Which I used to always rush in the days of 8v8) just isn't a viable path of attack. This map tends to end up with the team spilling into the buildings and humping cover as ranged weapons fire shreds people. I miss fond memories of brawling in close quarters here. Caustic is as hot as ever, and I like energy weapons. This map loves LURMS, and while I use these satanic weapons and their little brother the NARC from time to time, I have a bad habit of poking my head over hills and getting it shot off. Blame my clan zeal for that one.

Crimson I've had my best personal games on, with 7 or 8 kills and 1000+ damage, but I tend to lose. Go figure. I love the map, but it doesn't love me.

River City (night) and Frozen City (day) both have features that unsubtly encourage other vision modes. I'm not sure what the difference is on Forest Colony though.

Forest Colony
River City
Frozen City
Worst:
Tourmanline Desert
Caustic Valley

Though I really wish I had an option to never ever ever drop on Terra Therma, Alpine Peaks and(in some cases) Tourmanline.
I just hate those ;)

Best:
HPG ManiFault
Caustic Wolly
Cannon's Network

Least:
Frozen City~day... honestly that glitchy awkward map should/must be removed from rotation ages ago.
Alpine(Twin) Peaks... another BIG MISTAKE, we should act like in antic Sparta - Ugly maps shall be prematurely thrown off the cliff.

River City Night is my worst, by a margin so large that I fear there is some form of legitimate government conspiracy to make sure I never prosper in the dark. Do they... fear me?

Edit:

Best: River City (2.14)
Worst: River City Night (0.82)

I'd lol, but it's depressing! WTB 1 cockpit item: nightlight.

Tourmaline (1.76)
Forest Colony/Canyon Network tie (1.55)

Worst:

Terra Therma (1.06)

Strangely enough, my WLR for Frozen City is a dismal 0.45 - while my record on Frozen City Night is much better at 1.46.

Without going into detailas I found it funny to see that two of my best maps are the two maps I hate the most, while some of my favourite maps were among my worst. Strange...
