http://cloudmonitor....ping&ping=Start

This shows that the new data center is located in Montreal, Canada. I should get a ping of 260-270 to Montreal, but instead I get 390-420. That is unplayable, even with HSR.

I did a few traceroutes, (open command prompt, type: tracert mwomercs.com) and discovered that my connection is being routed through Europe!

Going the long way around the world explains why I (and other Australians) now have pings around 400.

I'd hope that PGI is aware of this by now, and is working to do something about it. As they don't look at the official forums, can a twitterer mention this problem on there?

interesting but this is not under PGI's control, it's ISP related.

You either complain to your ISP, or specifically complain to the node that's redirecting you to parts unknown...

I'm near Melbourne, and my ping has improved. I do think it might be ISP related - different pipe to the new center maybe?

It is because each ISP routes differently, and use different 3rd party carriers. (tier 1 ISP's)

If your ping has improved, then your connection is still going the short way, over the pacific.

Well, I'm in the Netherlands, my connection used to be routed through the US which made no sense to me whatsoever, I just checked and now it's being routed through France straight to Canada. I also tried pinging the server and I'm now at 99ms, about 30-50 less than before the server migration.
PS: Why is the server even responding to ping? The old server didn't and it can be exploited for a specific kind of DDOS attack.

I'm in Melbourne using Internode and I just did a traceroute - seems to be going the direct route across the pacific which would explain why my ping has stayed the same.

I've just run a tracert and my connection is still going over the pacific but my ping has increased about 50ms.

where within the trace does the ping spike.

You guys need to start collecting the data rather than just saying it's happened.

If there is a bad hop somewhere because it's being overloaded, find it, report it, get your ISP to get it sorted.

There's no bad hops, it is just connecting the long way round the world for some reason. That kind of ping would be expected over 25000km!

I might try changing DNS servers, but I can't connect to the internet at uni unless I have it on automatic. (Eduroam is just [redacted])

Im near Melbourne also, my average ping was 265, now its 285. Not much change for me, and I'm fairly sure thats more due to problems on my ISPs side, Im on 100mpbs/40mbps Fiber, But its been kinda ... janky lately. Need to call support anyways, I'll just bring this up too lol.

I think your internet is routed through an undeasea cable to europe before being routed to canada.

The only thing PGI could do is have a server located in europe or nearer to your location.

why would it magically jump from one pipe going to canada to another one going to canada via europe??

My understanding is that the routers attempt to minimize the number of hops to get to the destination without regard for ping.

Yeah I saw the spike occur in Quebec as it's heading into Montreal.
