Initially when I've encountered the MWO site for the first time I went into the deep research about IS factions. I've chew trenches all trough sarna, picking every detail about every Successor States, their history, culture, territory, notable characters and mechs. It didn't took long for me to take my choice on House Liao. One of lesser states surviving despite unfavorable odds, the only one open about it's political state, fighting with skill and commitment, rather than numbers and money, determinately atheistic, with russian language as one of official ones and with some good, really their own, mechs.

Since then, a lot have happened. I've entered the russian Liao unit, that outlived many of our allied units and grown from 20+ members total to 50+ active members today, becoming one of the largest russian MWO units, perhaps even the largest one. All trough that time I've became completely devoted and affiliated to the Capellan Confederation. I love my Ravens, Phracts, Catapults and Vindicators zealously, I don't like Clans, nor do I like Clan mechs or want or need them. I also pity the Faction players, who lack determination to avoid clan mechs, and severely despise minmax units and their members, who use Clan mechs just because "they're better than IS mechs, so we win moar", incapable of placing any challenge before them to beat.

So no, I've never been a clan loyalist, never bought any Clan Mechs, and never will. 對於校長!

We have very different ideas about Liao heh. To me they're the house led by a murderous madman or madwoman with death squads and oppression in spades. They run their country in to the ground for personal feuds or because of insignificant offenses that might have even only occurred in their paranoia driven heads. The only other faction leader i dislike as much as the Liao one is the Steiner one (actually to be fair i dislike Katherine Steiner much much more...she's like the Joffrey of the battletech universe :P).

So.... I am in limbo. Huge Clan Ghost Bear fan since MW2 however for the last 3 weeks I have been finding myself spending all my time away from Clan mechs and back in the hot seat of the IS classics.

I blame some of this renewed love on the recent module additions (cooldown rocks) but when I go to play I draw towards my 5 Atlases, my Jenners/Firestarters/Spiders and of course, my Centurions and Thunderbolts.

Maybe it is the customization level of the IS that is drawing me back as well since I keep bringing out new builds....but something just seems stale for me on the Clan side and has me 2nd guessing where I will go when CW hits...

Anyone else in limbo?

Its the nerfs to be honest. All my Clan mechs now run hotter than my IS mechs so its getting a bit frustrating not only fighting the enemy team but also fighting heat every match. About the only thing keeping me from going back to IS is I still like the way I can change out the omnipods to get hardpoint layout I want rather than be stuck with them fixed like the IS mechs. Honestly, that and that alone has kept me from finding a comfortable set of IS mechs.

Judging a faction solely by it's leader is kinda lackluster. Romano Liao might be paranoid, but only because she's a leader of a nation on a brink of collapse. I will not even going to elaborate on the Justin Allard... everything else you mention is omnipresent, Liao doesn't stands as an exception there.

My mech corp is leaning toward IS just because we know all of our guys have access to them. Now what faction to choose.

I usually do a lot of damage with my Clan mechs, but I just can't seem to seal the deal following up with kills with any regularity.

I don't have that problem with my IS machines.

They kill..............outright and quickly.

But I've been driving IS a lot longer than Clan. I guess I'm much more comfortable and familiar with my IS mechs.

IS it is with CW. I'll PUG my Clan mechs while that is going on and maybe switch when the seasons switch.

Too be honest. I don't know anything of the lore. I just plan on being a clanner because I like their mechs better.

You make the mistake of thinking of House Liao and the Capellan Confederation as a single entity when in fact they are 2 different states. Justin Allard is/was great as was his entire family (Kai and his father are actually one of my favorite characters in the battletech books) but even though they wanted to change house Liao for the better, at least in my eyes they were never really a part of it and were instead associated with Capellan Confederation only.

As for judging a faction solely on its leader in general you are right, but when the faction is actually named after the leader and his family and the leader has full authority and power over anything and everything, than you pretty much have to. I do not judge its subjects/people i only judge the house itself which is literary the Liao family of which any/only sane member fled to/founded the Capellan Confederation.

I'm in the same boat. My introduction to Battletech was Mechwarrior 2, and I can't help but like Clan Wolf. But the Novae and Kitfoxes I've been piloting for the last few weeks feel limp-wristed and ineffective, and I do more damage, get more kills, and have more fun in my IS mechs.
