I hate myself for this but I kinda have to agree with Arafinar... medieval battles had music to march by, modern battles don't susaly have large groups of infantry marching in big blocks so there's no need for them all to keep step..

I think sound tracks to combat work great from a cinematic side and I'm probably going to have Disturbed Indestructable blasting out at some point (still wish I could have it blasting out of my mech during gameplay) but I think it will probably distract me at some point, I just hope the adrenilin rush makes up for it.

You missed the main part about my comment once again Most voice com programs can be set up to attenuate background sounds when someone speaks on coms and when you talk so no orders are missed.
That means when someone talks or I talk it mutes and or lowers other background sounds therefore orders and Oh sh** moments are heard.

And yes there were times we did pump music in the gulf and yes there are times music is bad in combat that is a no brainer. I was talking about general history and the effect of music while playing a game.

Nope didnt miss it, ignored it cause most dont use it. I know what it means, not my first rodeo.
If you dont allow its use (music) it doesnt happen. dont want to be in a unit that doesnt atleast have some sort of military discipline.

So you just walk around a map listening to music?? W*F are you talkin about then?? Ok since you were in you know the difference
(which you didnt mention in the OP) between in combat and not, you still talk about it like you readit in a book.
you sir are being incongruent in your reasoning according to the OP. Just seems like back peddling.

Guess we will see how your theory and mine work:) See ya on the field...

Was driving today early morning about 500 km and was listening to Juno Reactor's Labyrinth and caught myself thinking that their Conquistador could be good as a battle background (but frankly as to me - I would be playing in absolute silence)

Yes, the Oscar winning Trent Reznor does some amazing atmospheric music work. I bet his score to Girl With the Dragon Tattoo would be great for MWO as well.
Q1 is still the only full feature video game he has done a soundtrack to, but to me it is still just a gritty & creepy as when Quake 1 was first released. I once accidentally left an Oregon Trail 2 CD in a PC that I started up Q1 on, and it ended up playing this cheezy intro music to this Q1 intro/demo sequence - Quite morbidly amusing
